Monte Carlo SS 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

I love my car but when I try to accelerate it slams into gear. if I'm driving with the cruise control on it seems like it's missing and it's getting to the point I'm going to get rid of my car.

Monte Carlo LT 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 88,000 miles

Just like a few others have reported....at a stop light or stop sign....when giving it gas...the car slams into 2 gear it seems. Feels like the transmission is slipping. Hoping it doesn't break because I'm broke and the car has been out of warranty for over 1.5 years. This has been going on for about a year.

Monte Carlo SS 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

Trans. slams into 1st gear, after slipping at a slow roll. Took to dealer ,they couldn't find anything wrong !!!! so they fond a broken motor mount & replaced it, under warranty. it was still doing it .A month later took it in for Service / still have problem , they said they fond another broken motor mount underneath ,.and replaced it. Drove off the the lot got a block away & it did it again at the light. One of the service writer took it home to Summerland to see if it would do it. And it did not. I told him I have 5 Wittnesses that experienced it. I had the 60,000 mile transmission service / & it still did it. Very embarrasing when it happens !!!! it's not right if it's slipping and should be inspected , not just with the computer & fixed, its under warranty.

Monte Carlo SS 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,000 miles

Seems that when I give it gas from a dead stop and try and take off it will occasionally slam into gear. I just hope it doesn't completely blow out the syncros or gears and then costs me an arm and a leg to fix.

Monte Carlo SS 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,000 miles

In about August 2011, the problem started again. I called the dealership again. Was told the next step in the bulletin was to replace the part, so they would order the part and let me know when it came in. I was called a couple of days later to say the part was in. I took my car in and it was repaired. This repair was to replace the 2nd gear in the transmission. I have driven the car for a year now and the problem is occurring again.

Monte Carlo SS 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,000 miles

I started having problems with my transmission on my 2007 Monte Carlo SS in about May of 2011. Initially, I called the local GM dealership. Was told to bring it in and let them look at it. They indicated there had been a bulletin regarding this problem, so they made the repair/adjustment which was to program the ECM. This corrected the problem for about 2 months.

Monte Carlo SS 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

Shortly after buying this 2007 Monte Carlo SS, the transmission began to have problems shifting into first gear. Instead of smoothly shifting into 1st, it would "slam" into gear. This is the only time it would happen.... shifting into 1st gear. It became very annoying so I took it into the local Chevy dealer and they took a look at it. They said they couldn't find anything wrong with it (isn't this always the case?), that their computers said the transmission was running fine (so much for computers). So I took the car back and the very next day, the transmission slammed into first while slowly rolling in traffic. I took it back to the Chevy dealer again and they looked into the problem once again. They replaced a "boot" mechanism and linkage and said that should take care of the problem. Well, I drove it for a couple of days and it seemed to shift fine. On the third or fourth day, I was starting to roll from a stop light and I hear that whine and the transmission almost refused to shift into 1st gear. It finally did as it again "slammed" into gear. I took the car back to Chevy and they basically said there wasn't anything else they could do. In fact, the service advisor suggested I not worry about it since I had an extended warranty on it. In other words, don't bother us anymore, just drive it until it breaks and then they'll replace it, minus my deductible of course. I've been looking for a place on GM's website to write in and voice a complaint but have found none. I'd really like to have a little talk with the CEO of GM and let him know what's been going on with the transmission and dealership. But I haven't been able to find his email address. So that's pretty much it for the transmission. Drive it until it breaks, they said! No wonder the foreign cars are more popular than the American vehicles today. Other than this transmission problem and another one I'll go into later, the car is fine. So if the transmission breaks, at least I'll be able to sit back and look at my beautiful Monte Carlo SS, even though it won't be able to go anywhere! Seriously though, I'm considering trading it off for a Honda Accord, or something similar; something that is at least reliable and will not piss me off everytime I drive it.

Update from Feb 26, 2011: My 2007 Monte Carlo SS now has 45,000 miles on it and the transmission is still slamming into gear, and the Chevy Dealer still swears there's nothing wrong with it! Since this is obviously an on-going problem, I will probably trade it off in the next couple of months or so and try to find something that I can depend on.
