When the problem began, I had an intermittent ABS light, the brakes began pulling to the left, and the driver's side front wheel would occasionally lock on braking. One evening, the light came on & stayed on. Since then, my ABS light is on continuously, and the ABS system doesn't work.

One repair shop told me the wheel sensor was bad, and I'd have to replace the wheel hub because the sensor was part of it. They estimated the repair at over $250. At no point did they attach an ABS computer diagnostic analyzer, nor did they offer to do so.

I spotted a GM service bulletin (I forgot where), according to GM there is a corrosion issue with the wheel sensor assembly on the S-10 series pickups. The fix involves removing the sensor, removing the corrosion, applying an anti-corrosion compound, and reassembling everything.

The above fix may or may not solve my problem; someday, I'll try it (I'm a mechanic) and find out. Meanwhile, my brakes work well without the ABS, so it's on a back burner.

The gripe: We have several methods of controlling corrosion. Why didn't GM use one of those methods, such as a phosphate treatment, when they built this vehicle?

Driving on dry roads the ABS would set off at stop lights, screech like a yeti and not do much at all for braking purposes. My dad's '06 trailblazer does the same thing. One night in my s-10 hit black ice on a back road doing no more than 20-25mph, i promise, i hit the brakes when it slid out, they didn't do a fricken thing, just screamed louder than my girlfriend in the passanger seat, and we slid off a 15ft ledge into 2 trees and a river, knocked the entire front end into my windshield, no casualties other than the piece of $#!+ chevy, but 2 inches in either direction would have made that cab a double casket. Strongly suggest not buying a chevy if there is any possibility of snow, they need to work out the kinks in their ABS first.
