The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated that the lower hinge pin on the passenger side door continued working its way upward which caused the door to rattle abnormally. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer in regards to the issue. In addition, the contact stated that the plastic rear door handle continued to fracture from the vehicle. The door handle was replaced with the same type of plastic door handle. The contact was concerned because there was not a metal replacement handle available and believed the plastic would only continue to fracture. The failure mileage was 64,720 and the current mileage was 84,780.

The 3rd door handle/latch on our extended cab 2003 Chevy S-10 recently broke for the fourth time. This occurs approximately every 8-10 months. The vehicle is used for personal use only. The 3rd door is opened/closed approximately 10 times a week. The dealer has worked with us on this and we do not believe that it is a service department issue. We believe that the part is either designed improperly or manufactured from substandard material. We are deeply concerned that this is a safety issue. If a person or animal was being transported in the extended cab area and the handle/latch failed in an emergency where a speedy exit from the vehicle was critical, loss of life could occur.
