I had a noise from the steering column. Also started to get sloppy steering. No matter which way I turn it did it. Cold or hot weather, it didn't matter. Then the steering started to get sloppy when driving straight forward. Took it to the dealer and they reported that the intermediate steering shaft was worn out. It was fixed for about $150. I did some checking and GM knows about this problem. The dealer even commented they have a high failure rate and see a lot of them come in. GMs' remedy was to redesign the whole shaft. Or what the dealer called a retrofit.
