It appears heat was the culprit as the radio had a mini fan attached to the back of the CD portion of the unit. The standard radio/CD unit was quite large and had a built in clock. The Silverado dash has a large plastic surround that covers the radio, tach, speedometer, etc. Adjust the steering wheel to its lowest position and grab the surround, by pushing in at the right spots you can pop open the tangs that attach it, and whala there is the radio exposed and ready to take out. The Dual radio NOW is about $80 and the new cage for it about $20 along with the wiring harness adapter at about $10 to 20 at crutchfield.com, shipping and support is free! The radio has a clock, gets the new HD stations, plays MP3's from a USB memory stick, regular or MP3 CDs, mutes, and on and on.
