Silverado 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,100 miles

this all started the first of october that it was a leak in the radiator, hoses, or reservior but it comes to my finding out it was my water pump so i am getting a new one and installing it myself when i fix the problem i will repost with a solution, also there are some ways to check number 1 before you start your truck squeeze the radiator hose that leads from the the top of the radiator and leads to your water pump/thermostat housing it should be really easy to squeeze then start your truck let it run for 2-3 minutes or normal engine temp then squeeze the hose again if it is hard to squeeze your hose is fine if it is easy to squeeze then your water pump is gone number 2 run your finger on the bottom of your water pump there is a hole on the bottom the size or a pencil if you have water or cooloant coming out then your water pump is gone out if no water or coolant then your pump is fine best way to get to this is to just reach under the pump WITH THE TRUCK NOT RUNNING and check hope this helps people that own the truck i have if not let me know and i will coe up with a solution

Silverado C1500 4.8L/V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 148,000 miles

This seems to be a complaint among Silverado owners. All you have to do is walk through a parking lot and I promise you can smell the antifreeze coming from the Silverado's and not see any on the ground. Don't go too long before repair, or on your next oil change you will see sludge come from your drain plug. First sign is a slow loss of antifreeze in your reservoir. It will gradually get worse. Antifreeze smell will pick up. The next (Bad) sign is that you will notice your oil pressure fall off by 5-10 pounds and slowly get to be 20 pounds. Now get the damn thing fixed. GM should cover all these problems. I've bought my last Chevrolet.....

Silverado LS 4.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

I bought this Silverado brand new. I having problem all the time with engine knocking. I did bring it to Chevy dealer to get it check out while it still under warranty, they found nothing wrong. As soon as the warranty is out at 36000 mi, the engine started to leak a little oil. Now the leak is worst. At 52,000 the heater core went bad, I was out of town and bring it to Steve Rayman Chevrolet to get it service. they fix the heater core. from that point on, my truck is leaking air, and it start loosing antifreeze.

Silverado LS 4.3L V6

Another the engine coolant leak, just started 2 month ago.

PLEASE BE CONSCIOUS ABOUT THIS: All the truck cost about the same at brandnew, just spend may be $500 extra to get a Toyota or a Nissan they will be worthwhile. They kept better value and will not going to turn out like a piece a sht like Chevrolet, Ford, or Dodge. They all junk. PLEASE TAKE MY WORDS FOR IT. I DIDN'T KNOW THEN, BUT I KNOW NOW.

Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 V8

  • Automatic transmission

The water pump gasket goes bad in these pickups pretty often, you can tell by removing the skid plate underneath (which also should not be there) and taking a flashlight and shining almost straight up at your waterpump and you can see a slow leak. Now i have had a lot of people telling me the more serious problem is that the radiator will get a hole in it, and lead in to the tranny cooler, go through the transmission and ruin the radiator and transmission. The other problem that happens is in reverse of above, and trans fluid runs through your radiator and engine in turn ruining the tranny, radiator and motor

We had continually been going through anti-freeze and the low coolant light kept coming on. The truck was still under warranty! We went to the dealer and had to replace the intake gasket. It worked for awhile and now the vehicle is going through anti-freeze again and the dealer says it has been fixed and it shouldn't be doing that. We just keep adding coolant, especially in the summer and warmer weather.
