Noise progressively got worse while using the fulltime 4 wheel drive. A grinding noise could be heard under light acceleration and it was more pronounced while going up a hill. Eventually, you could hear it while in the Auto-4wd mode. Dealership replaced the transfer case with a new one. The mechanic showed me that the drilling of the transfer case, where the race is installed, was not square so the bearing rode around the race at an inside-outside pattern, eventually damaging the bearing. The mechanic said that this was the second truck that had this problem.
