Hx: 2002 1500HD original owner my father elderly 62y/o @ time of purchase. Truck was driven 1800 miles a year for the first 9 yrs. It had 17k miles at the beginning of this year. I know, crazy, but true. Truck always garaged. Did I mention that this has been a Texas truck it's whole life til June of this year. My Dad and Step-mother were so pleased with the GM product that they went out last year and paid $24k cash for a new Malibu. I know, crazy, but true. So my father has been diagnosed with a long term illness and needs to be cared for 24/7 and now lives Ohio with me and my family. So, I became his POA and had his truck put in my name to make taking care of it easier on us. Well, at the 24k mile mark it started this intermittent transmission problem. While driving it would suddenly jerk into gear. It would do this through all of it's shifting until you reached highway speeds. It would only stop when you turned off the car for a period of time. Ok, so this has happened maybe 5 times til I reached the 31k mile mark when I decided that it was time to take action and call GM customer service. First call, ended with them telling me that it needed to be diagnosed. So, I took the truck to my local Chevrolet dealer and paid the $95 for the diagnosis. Several hours later the repair rep. told me that they found that the transmission was slipping in second gear. Well "No Sh#t"! and that it will cost approx. $1100 to tear it down and find the exact problem. The paperwork that was handed to me has the code on it and the following sentence "Recommend the transmission be replaced". Ok, another call to GM customer service. They tell me that they talked to the dealer and are escalating the claim to a higher service rep. qualified to deal with this problem. The new customer service rep. calls me the next business day and tells me that they are further reviewing my case and will call me the next day. Next day comes with a call from the service rep. telling me that I am responsible for any diagnosis fee and that a further diagnosis is required before they will make any determination on whether they will help with the repair cost. I told the rep. that my paper work has two diagnosis on it, the slip code and replace the transmission. So which one do you think is the going to be the end result. Do you really think that I am going to pay $1100 to have the dealership tell what the internal problem is and that it is going to cost another $2k to fix it. They've already calculated what the best outcome is HELLO "Replace the transmission". GM won't acknowledge this. Time to fight back against the companies we bailed out. They want you to give up. Well, not this customer. I forgot to mention, both customer service reps. asked me if I own any other GM vehicles? What does this have to do with the transmission on my truck?
