Mine went out at 79,990 miles and I contacted my local dealer about the replacement. Chevy fixes up to 70K but it is up to the dealer to fix between 70K-80K in what they call a Good Gesture. Basically if you have gone to them for tune-ups or oil changes in the past they consider you a repeat customer and will offer you the extension up to 80K. I used the local dealer twice for oil changes in 2006 and they still are going to replace it at no cost. I know this doesn't help everyones situation but wanted to let those of you who are between 70K-80K that you still have options. Best of luck.

My Speedometer Just quit Working.....This Is something that should be under recall...I know 3 people personally with the same problem...
- Dwane C., Copperas Cove, TX, US
Great truck, just a bad speedometer. It works some of the time, but I found where there's a recall on the stepper motor that drives the speedometer. You will only qualify for the recall if you have less than 70k miles.
- Steve C., Vallejo, CA, US
My speedo was inaccurate and also ticked like a clock under acceleration. I had other problems with the tach and fuel gauge as well. Chevy replaced my gauge cluster (under ext. warranty) which fixed the speedo but now my tach is barely moving off of zero. I guess I'm going back to the dealer.

I am driving along and can not figure out why I am passing everyone. My speedometer says 55 and speed limit on this highway is 70 mph. I get off my exit and it says I am going 55 mph. Chevrolet sucks anymore. I am looking at trading this piece of sh*t Chevy in for something else. Dodge, Ford, Lincoln, Toyota are my next vehicle purchase. I have been a loyal Chevy person for 30 plus years, But this is poor service from Chevrolet.

At 73,000 my speed-o-meter stopped working. Real pain. I think this should be recalled.
- Joshua J., Elk City, KS, US
warranty just ran out and my speedometer quit working!! Found out Chevy would fix it up to 70K, i got 74K!! What i really don't understand is,when i called my local dealer to get it fixed, they said they have to have the truck there to remove old cluster so they can order new one?? So i"ll be without my truck for at least two days!! i use my truck for work!! why not order it first, when it comes in,i'll bring it in so they can swap it out, make sense right ?? they can't do that!!!!!!!!! they have to have the truck there!!! I don't get it

i got the truck in November and once the cold hit i had to put the truck in four wheel drive and i noticed my speed was way off. i took it out of 4 wheel and shut the truck off and back on and it reset itself but only for a short time now it just gets worse. there needs to be a recall on this its a real pain in the ass and im sick of speeding tickets.
- Cody W., Mount Pleasant, IA, US
I have received a ticket because I didn't know how fast I was going. The speedometer said that I was going 65 but I was really going 80 miles per hour.
- Phillip J., Vance, AL, US
I have no idea how fast I'm going? Sometimes it works but is still off and other times, it just stops working all together. If it is cold, it stops working and you hear a tapping noise coming out of the cluster. If it is warm weather, you get some response out of it but it is not correct. I was already pulled over for speeding when I thought I was under the speed limit. There are I believe, 5 different speed sensors on the truck and I don't know which one is not working. I am not alone in this! There are hundreds of people on chats and forums who are complaining about the same thing. Why should I have to pay for these cheap parts?

I reported this to the dealer ship where they gave me the advise to shut the vehicle off and it would reset itself. This worked several times, sometimes taking several restarts to accomplish.
Now I get the recall notice and because I have driven my vehicle over 70k/5years, which ever comes first they will not repair this. It will cost approx. $450 to fix it. If this is a recall why are they not taking care of it. It takes several years and MANY complaints to get something recalled. That means that this has been going on for several years. This is Bull, it is a design defect and should be replaced at their cost. GM refuses as does my local dealership. My My vehicle has been maintained by them, I must have spent thousands over the last 5 years in bringing it to them for required servicing. Why did they never check this ?
Their comment was, "well, if you never bought it in to be fixed why should it be fixed now" I didn't bring it in because the service manager said he had the same problem with his vehicle and that shutting it off would reset it.
Oh, they would fix it if it were considered a safety problem. Well, If I am traveling at an unsafe speed because I am going according to my speedometer, then that is a safety problem. ONLY in this case, they get to determine what is a safety problem and what is not.

Chevrolet has admitted to issues with their gauges/speedometer not working and has promised to fix those folks who are having issues within the 7 year/70000 warranty. The problem is that it doesn't help those folks who are 4 years old and over 70000 or those folks who are about to learn the known/reported defect. This is going to burn a lot of folks who are going to have these issues with the known defect only because of their timing. I wouldn't purchase another Chevy on the mere fact that they don't take care of their customers.

speedometer stopped working at 28,000 miles on truck heard from parts place it could cost as much as $300-$600 to fix .any one else having this problem please lets get a recall from GMC Chevrolet
- Randy D., Prattville, AL, US
Speedometer gets stuck. When increasing speed the needle with get stuck while the truck is still accelerating, and vice versa, it with get stuck when you let off the accelerator.
- Tony R., Shreveport, LA, US
not consistent yet but it just sticks sometimes and every time I turn it off and on it keeps going down until I get back to zero.. then it will run a while correctly... now the A/C is making a noise randomly...
- Gail B., Hutto, TX, US
Speedometer after 40,000 miles stops working. I have found over 400 similar complaints for Chevrolet's of this year with this problem. I hear it costs over 600 dollars to repair with no action by GM.
- Robert A., Ocean City, NJ, US
Garage says they want a ton of money to fix it. I bought a GPS for a $100 and use that to tell me how fast I'm going.
