Most common solutions:
- replace with a rebuilt engine (2 reports)
NO engine, properly maintained as this engine was, should blow a rod at 73,000 miles. Chevrolet should be ashamed to make such a product and do nothing to satisfy the customer...time to buy overseas pickups who back their products!
Products built like this and no accountability are the entire problem with the USA manufacturers - especially Chevrolet. Don't buy their products!!

2003 we bought this PU for $37,638. From 11/2012 we have got repair dollars at a total of $4,343.60 without the NEW PROBLEM of a lifter or cam or engine going BAD . With the cost of the PU and repairs this truck has cost us $43,981.60 in 9 years!
The worst problem next to replacing the Engine was the Cluster Instrument Panel which I called the Cluster F*ck. It was noted on a Class Action Suit which I was notified at the time but the Dealer found NO PROBLEM in 2004. But it did break Aug 2006 at a cost to me of $307.37 because just before it went crazy the mileage JUMPED and went above 70K so then it wasn't covered under the Law Suit. Others on the Internet reported the same problem with their trucks.
Let me list some problems: tranny cover, you can put your finger thru the metal! Brakes wore out like swiss cheese.Inner Ties Rods replaced. New ABS lines. Throttle lines replaced.Calipers several times.Transmission lines replaced.Tail gate handle broke.Right window regular broke.Ball Joints.Power train control module replaced.Steering Shaft replaced. electrical problems. Now the motor.
When Chevrolet advertises: Chevy Runs Deep. They mean into your Wallet!
We tried so hard to keep this PU running. Now we will just Drive it into the ground and never, ever BUY another Chevy.
Crap for quality product.
