after driving about 50 miles and while crossing a bridge at 45mph the engine shut off and would not restart.we sat in a driving lane until we had it towed to a highly respected garage where they or their scope could not find a problem .the next morning it started and ran ok. we next went to a gm dealer who also cant figure it out . the two shops discussed it and their recomendation is to carry a cell phone and call them if it happens again ( i guess if my cell still works after being rearended on the expressway by an 80mph semi !) its pretty sad that my 80 year old model A and our 141,000 mile honda are both more trust worthy than our chevy with 61,000 miles .if a gm dealer doesn't or can't solve their own products problems we WILL NOT replace this with another gm product !!! hoping for an answer !! Quitting at inopportune times like "when you pull out in traffic" and almost getting hit.... bad... we "spoil" all our many vehicles with frequent oil changes, grease and quality maintenance; when this problem started to present itself, none of us (who are mechanically well versed and experienced with many types of vehicles!) could solve the problem! We finally took the vehicle, with its GM "Protection Plan" back to the dealer. BEFORE I GOT BACK TO THE OFFICE, THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLING WITH THE SOLUTION - yeah right... like they didn't know???? They knew - this is clearly an engineering flaw. They went directly to the problem and solved it! I believe if an engineering mistake has been found, they should notify and/or correct it!!! The truck will act as if it has "jumped timing" (for you old folks out there) The condensation that leaked onto the distributor caused intermittent distributor failure that could not be diagnosed by the computer diagnostic tools. When you take it in - the dealer will install a conduit over the air conditioning compressor so it will not leak onto the distributor anymore - thus solving the problem! Doesn't put the money lost in revenues and man hours back in my pocket - doesn't reimburse the 289.00 spent for less than 1 hour! And we had just purchased brand new parts that were literally hours old!!!! And it is not covered under warranty or the additional protection plan that we purchased... even though I can't find any notations whatsoever that would exclude this, however. the fight has just begun... I wonder if this problem has caused accidents as it almost did in our case!!!!!
