problem #1

Silverado LX 5.3L

The blower motor died at 100K miles. OK no big deal. The one the dealer replaced it with has slowly been making more and more interference with the AM radio and the CB radio. It has gotten to the point that the weaker AM stations get drowned out by the blower and I have to turn the a/c to low to keep listening. Same for the CB radio when I am driving the roar of electrical noise completely wipes out the signals. I can't use the ham radio in the truck either because of this.

I complained to the dealer and he gave me some BS story about how it was caused by the 2-way radio's cable running right past the blower. well I have to call BS on that one, since it has nothing to do with the problem with the AM radio's cable, which is where it is supposed to be I suppose. I think he just spotted that CB/ham radio cable and used it as an excuse to get rid of me. He also had the gall to suggest I take it at my expense to a car stereo shop. What a champ he is to try to BS me on an electronics issue. When I called BS on this spiel and explained to him why the interference was greater at certain places on the band than on others and explained why the CB radio antenna cable has nothing to do with interference caused by the blower to the AM radio reception, most went in one ear and out the other, he said he would be happy to replace the blower motor again. I will likely ask them to do that once I determine that is the problem. Van Chevrolet, Carrollton, TX. This is the first time I have ever been BS'd or treated like an ignorant person there - and they know me better than that -that I cannot be BS'd. I will go back there later. I suppose that is more what I am unhappy with - besides a new motor degrading in 3 months - the assumption that I could be bamboozled with technobabble.

Update from Jun 16, 2009: I went back 2 days later having proven by electronic testing that the problem was the newly installed blower motor. At that point they replaced the motor with no further argument.

I do not believe all these motors will go bad. The bottom line is that the one i had was defective. Once it was replaced the problem went away.

to clarify, the symptom was a loud hum in the spekaers when the radio was set to AM. The symptom may be brought to the forefront by setting the radio between stations. The tone/pitch of the hum would increase as the fan speed was increased.
