My 2004 Silverado was bought new and never had any problems other than the heating and cooling system acting up. But in Jan of 2012 my clear coat starting getting bumps into it and now most of the whole hood has peeled off and away. Contacted dealer and was told there were hundreds in this area that have complained with same problems. GM however does nor give a sh*t and will not listen according to the dealers. I understand a dealer not wanting to eat the cost. According to 3 dealers in the Memphis, TN area I understand for some reason the paint was not allow to cure proper before the clear coat was applied thus over time allowing air to get under the clear coat and causing it to start peeling. This is caused from the movement of the expanding of the metal during hot and cold times. Over time I really feel all of it will peel off. It gets worst as you drive with the air getting under the clear coat and blowing off. GM should own up to the mistake and fix all of them. However GM only care about themselves and making money. It takes a lot of complaints and lawsuits to force their hand and now since they are back by the government they really do not give a sh*t. Buy a American Ford built next time.

Well I got a 2004 Ext cab Blue silverado witch is my pride and joy. I got a 6inch lift, 18inch rims and mud tires on it and chromed out all over. I've put every thing u could possibly put on a truck and i was finally done fixing it up and BAM!! the worst thing ever happened. My Clear coat on the top of the cab and hood is peeling off and makes my truck look like SH*T!!!!! even tho I've got all that stuff done to it it still looks awful. I am really mad at the fact that this truck only has 70,000 miles and is a 2004 and already is doing this. I'm really heart broken!!

I am glad to see this clear coat issue is not just me. I have treated my truck well but the clear coat bubbling and peeling is quite annoying and very unsightly. The fact that GM is not even willing to acknowledge this as a pattern with their vehicles has me questioning whether or to buy GM products any more.
