Vehicle failed inspection for rust and deep pitting on rotors. Dealer said it was a common problem with this truck but was not covered by GM under warranty. Never buy a GM product again.

Silverado 4x4 1500

  • Automatic transmission
  • 11,475 miles

We Purchased a new 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that currently has only 11,475 miles on the vehicle. I was informed during a safety inspection that the brake rotors and brakes need to be replaced (complete)and had commented he has experienced "many failures" such as mine. Failure due to porous casting of rotors causing pads to become unusable. Servicing dealer that inspected failure listed as rust? Speaking with a Chevrolet representative (Maria) several weeks ago and with assurances she would contact me after a discussion with the dealer but have been ignored. Several attempts to contact the representative have failed. This repair will cost in excess of $700.00. In researching failure I found interesting documentation that the failure of the rotor material has been an ongoing problem with Chevrolet products and many claims have been filed with the NHTSB. I am aware Chevrolet has paid claims to others with the same conditions and I feel the NHTSB should look at this problem closely before there are increased fatalities caused by this material failure.

Chevrolet did pay for the repair. . . . . BUT still too many failures reported.
