LOOKS LIKE WE'VE ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM TIME FOR RECALL. HAS BEEN A VERY RELIABLE TRUCK APART FROM STEERING COLUMN
- B M., Lexington, MA, US
Truck has just over 16000 miles on it and I can feel a pulsation in the steering wheel. It feels like the front end is loose. I find myself grabbing steering wheel and trying to move it up and down to see if there is anything loose there, but it's tight. It is especially bad when turning to the right. Every little bump is transmitted to the steering wheel. I never noticed this when the truck was new and it feels like it is getting worse. I'm going to bring this to the attention of the Dealer next week. I will keep you posted on what they say.

General Motors has known of this problem for several years and their only answer is to remove the shaft and lube it. It is about time they fixed the problem and recalled all affected vehicles

i bought this auto used from a dealer in Maryland. it had only 1 other owner and the truck had about 5500 miles on it when i bought it in june of of. i called the dealer about the problem only to be told it is out of the 36000 mile warranty. the truck only has38,000 miles on it now. although i only put about 33 of the 38,000 miles on the truck it is still out of warranty. this steering knocking seems to be a common problem in the Silverado truck. i have always driven a chey and never had any problems until now. the dealer wants me to pay $100. just to find out what the problem is, but it seems to me with all the other Silverado owners complaining they already know and they just want an extra $100. to boot. after this i will probley never by a Chevy again, more than likely i will buy a ford.

The knocking started out only while taking mild to moderate curves to the left, and now it happens while taking curves to both sides. The steering wheel tends to bounce away from the direction of the turn, making the steering and front end feel very loose while taking curves either direction. Took it to the Chevy dealer today, and they "can't feel anything wrong with it". I'm skeptical that there is nothing wrong since this seems to be a common problem with the past several years of Chevy trucks. Maybe they just don't want to fix it under warranty, or they've gotten so used to the terrible steering on Chevy's that they honestly can't tell that it's not supposed to be that way. It wasn't there when it was new, so guess what, it shouldn't be there now. If anyone has a fix, please let me know.

16,000 miles on new truck and a knock or clunk developed in steering wheel. Talking with other Chevrolet truck owners and researching internet I have found this has been an on going problem for a number of years. Shame on Chevrolet to continue installing faulty steering shafts in their trucks!!

A few days ago my brother was driving my 2006 chevy silverado 1500 on the highway with me in the passenger seat, he noticed a knock in the steering wheel. the next day i was driving my truck and thats all i could feel, i called the dealership and right off the bat they knew what was wrong, i figured it must be pretty common for a steering column to be like this, came on this website and noticed that everyone has had complaints. but the thing is, why is my truck doing it when it doesnt have much mileage on it & is only a year old? problem needs to be fixed.

This is a very annoying sound not to mention you can feel it with every bump you hit. I brought it back at 21000 miles and they knew exactly what was wrong with it and even told me that it will happen every 20,000 miles or so. What's up with that? They need to start making these companies back up their product. The part didn't make it to the end of the warranty and had to be replaced. Shouldn't the new part be dated and be held to the same standards as the original part. I know they don't but they should. Especially when they tell you it is going to happen again in another 20,000 miles. Pretty much a lose lose situation for the consumer. This was my first full size Chevy truck and will be my last. Oh ya not to mention a few months later they come out with 100,000 mile warranty. Nice!!!
