Own a 2009 Silverado 4x4 with 5.3 l engine. Had 58000 miles on vehicle. Always maintained by dealer as I purchased it new. Last July as I started the vehicle, the check traction control light came on. Immediately took it to the dealer. After paying $600 to have them look at it, they said the cam shaft was toast and some valves needed replacing. They recommended a new engine . Had new engine for $6500 installed. Now into this new adventure for $7100. I guess the diagnostics the Chevy dealer runs every 3000 miles doesn't pick up any problems. This was my first and last Chevy. Will stick to Ford or Dodge in the future. What a POS!

Well, I don't know where to begin. I purchased a 2009 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab in 2009 with the intent to have it for awhile. Little did I know this truck would be such a pain in the ass. At 33,000 miles half the engine had to be replaced due to carbon build up from the AFM system. From that point on it has been a nightmare. At 77,000 miles the truck had to go in the dealership again for the engine. This time and engine soak had to be done along with splash guards placed inside the valve covers to keep the oil from burning up. That took 2 weeks. I continued to have my oil change every 3,000 miles using full synthetic. The engine continued to burn oil, about a quart every 1,000 miles. At 98,000 miles both valve cover gaskets needed to be replaced along the oil pressure sensor. Now at 142,000 miles the water pump needed to be replaced but i also noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine. I was out of town at the time so I took it to the nearest dealership to find out the crankshaft and bearings in the engine are shot. The dealership tells me, you need a new or slighty used engine at the cost of $4,700. What choice do i have!! I call GM customer satisfaction and they tell me they wont assist in the cost of the engine replacement sisnce it was last seen at a dealership over a year ago. It has been documented the 5.3 L AFM V8 has issues, including mine but for GM to tell me we wont assist in the replacement of the engine is bad business. Oh yeah, they offered me $1,000 towards a purchase of a new GM vehicle. Really, why would I want to buy one now!!!!

I bought this truck new and within weeks I new there was a problem I had owned a dozen Chevy GMC Trucks for the last 30 years. Each one lasted over 200,000 miles and my 1999 is at 296,000 and still going strong. I knew this one was not going to make it even close, the engine could not keep a constant rpm. I called and complained many times and they found nothing. The rear end had to be fixed and rebuilt the first year. I have made many trips to the dealer about the stabilitrack light coming on and off, the 4 wheel drive not disengaging and the light staying on that says "service stabitrack." The rpm problem never was fixed. The rocker arms started ticking and on the way to the dealer blew up and seized.The engine has been replaced 7 days ago now the LEMON is back in the shop. The rocker arms or lifters are banging on this engine and I asked about the warranty on this engine. What a joke! It only goes for the next 20,000 miles till the truck reaches its 100,000 miles. Well, a "for sale" sign goes in this truck as soon as it gets out of the shop and even though my backside (for over 37 years and more than 10 GM products) has never, ever sat behind anything but the wheel of a Chevy or GMC truck, it never will again, I'll sell this one and take away a new car sale from Chevy and find me a FOREIGN TRUCK and plant my backside on a truck made to last. I have no problem with the dealer; they can't help it, CHEVY built the product. They have these loyalty signs all over the dealerships , right, loyalty has no rewards in my opinion.The truck is in the shop and now being looked at, PUT ANOTHER ENGINE IN IT CHEVY, this one is trash also.
