This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chevrolet dealer.
Bought vehicle on November 19th 2016, engine had a knock when vehicle was purchased. Car dealer stated that the engine knock will eventually stop on its own. Currently the vehicles engine is still knocking.

Have had a big problem out of this truck, me and my husband both have been big Chevy fans till now. We have bought 1995 Chevy Tahoe, 2000 Chevy Silverado, 2004 Chevy Avalanche, and now this 2009. My husband works out of town a lot so he really needs a truck he can trust. 1st he was out of town 4 hours away from home and the light came on to reduce power mode and his truck would not go over 15 on interstate so he had to get his boss's flatbed to haul it home.
In November we had the Sensor replaced - I had to tell the dealership it should be covered under my power train warranty he was trying to charge me $600. In the end he did check and it was covered.
Well when we got it back my husband noticed a noise and he thought maybe something just got loose but it got louder and louder, Well I tried and tried to call dealership back with no luck they would transfer me back to leave a message and there voice mail was full on several occasion but, when I did get through, I didn’t get to talk to anyone. I did leave 2 messages with no luck in anyone calling me back. I understand we had Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks in there. But after that I called Chevy office and spoke with a Rachel in customer service she also called with no answer and voice mail was full. We did get a hold of someone and they took truck in and told me it was lifters and I did not even get paper work from that dealer to tell me this so at this point Rachel asked me if I wanted a second advice I said yes, so I took is elsewhere. They also told me lifter. I have written to the Chevy Headquarters about this No reply yet. But Rachel said they would not help me at all they said since I did not have my truck serviced there that was all they could do.
Bottom line I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CHEVY MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 890000 miles and now we don’t trust it and don’t trust that Chevy will help either. I had to pay the whole amount for them to fix it and it was 3840.00 and I feel that with all the problems I had to trying to get it in there before the warranty ran out, They could have a least help me. Grant you I’m paying 530.00 a month payment on top of this now. I did tell them I could not afford this. I was only a couple days out of my warranty when I got a hold of Rachel the Chevy Customer Service Specialist. She was really nice on phone but the bottom line I did not get help at all the truck as only 89000 on it now. Sorry I feel THIS WAS POOR POOR POOR Customer Service after I have had bought 4 Chevy Trucks from them. I have read other complaints about the lifters and Now I don’t want to even try another Chevy. VERY VERY UPSET Customer.
P.S. I have taken my Chevy Girl Sticker off the back of my 2004 Chevy Avalanche.
Update from Apr 14, 2015: back to the garage they could not hear noise. now i have to take back at night so they can hear it when its cold .

bought this 2009 silverado from a chevy dealer, bought used with only 36,000 miles. have only owned the truck for two months and it has been at the dealer three times already, they replaced the lifters, still makes noise, just dropped it off today and they gave me a loaner vehicle, they are not sure what they are going to do at this point. i really think the only fix now is a new engine.
Update from Jul 30, 2013: dealer ended up installing a brand new engine. they said the old engine had cylinder wall scoring and wear .

I bought this truck new in 2009, so that I could have a reliable truck for a long time. Wow what a mistake! Rear main seal failed before 50,000 miles. It's been burning oil since before 50,000 miles as well. New spark plugs, coil packs, etc. Two quarts between oil changes. This is ridiculous. My 2005 with 125,000 doesn't leak or burn a drop and still has the original plugs, wires, etc.
Anyhow, now the engine sounded like it's going to explode so I had it towed to a repair shop. $1,909 dollars later I have new lifters on the passenger side and they replaced the valve cover on the driver side to supposedly correct the oil consumption issue. I picked it up from the mechanic and didn't make it 5 miles when the check engine light started to flash and the traction control light came on.
A simple Google search on this issue makes me afraid to drive it at all. Sounds like a new engine is imminent. 80,000 miles out of a regularly serviced and pamper truck is pathetic. Last GM for me. Obama should have let them go bankrupt. I guess I'll move on to an F150 next.
