Twice I have had the spare tire winch cable break on me, if this was to happen in heavy traffic or high speeds it could cause serious injury or death, and I was never aware it was gone until I needed the spare.

While driving the cable from which my spare was attached broke loose, and the tire landed to the side of the roadway. Speed was only 35 mph at the time, this happened without warning. No repairs have been made. Dealer referred to nhsta.

While the vehicle was parked. Consumer inspected the spare tire rack, and noticed cable sheared off. Spare tire rivets falling off of the tire while travelling. The spare tire was brand new never used before.
