Silverado 1500 LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,750 miles

The A/C stopped blowing cold air because a hose/line leaked all of the freon out. This is the line that goes from the compressor to the condenser and it is a known issue with the Silverado.

The dealer wouldn't cover under warranty (38,750 miles) so I told the dealer to button it up and I would take it to the local Ford dealer to get it fixed.....and then trade it in on a F-150

GM finally agreed to "help out".

The $485 repair was lowered to $225 and they threw in the $5 line bracket that is supposed to contain the vibration and stop this problem. If you haven't had this problem yet pick one up and slap it on now .. available on Amazon ... New Genuine GM Bracket Part# - 23264893

noticed a knock sound coming from compressor, took it to dealer and they said they had 5 more 2014 trucks in the shop for same problem. then 2 days later i was going down the road and a smoke cloud blew out from under my truck. pulled over and ac belt was laying on the frame but no help because vehicle was out of bumper to bumper warranty. called gm and they are offering to pay for some of it but wont tell me how much. internet shows this is a common problem. i urge everyone with this problem to call gm and file a complaint. 43,000 dollars for a truck and the ac won't last 60,000 miles, this is bad. at least ford or dodge would stand behind their work.....

condenser cracked where the top A/C hose connects

AC stopped working, had it tested and was told that I needed a new condenser. come to find out there wasn't a condenser anywhere in this country for the 2014 Silverado mine wasn't the only 2014 Silverado with this issue. so I called GM and put up quite a stink. they called my local Chevy dealer (Cantin's Chevrolet) Laconia NH. they then called me and informed me that this condenser was on National back order and that GM would cover the cost of the condenser but I would have to pay for the labor ($400) but there would be a long wait for the condenser. a few weeks went by and I was told they could get me an aftermarket condenser but there would only be a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. not the chevy warranty on replacement parts which I believe is for as long as I own the vehicle. I feel that GM knew they had a problem and should have created a recall on these condenser if for no other reason it should have been recalled for environmental reasons. All of that R134 gas leaking into the atmosphere. Very disappointed With GM Please contact me with any questions.

GM Avoiding the inherent design flaw Issue. Do an Internet search and you will find pages and pages of issues with the 2014 Model. Most failing within the warranty period but a lot outside which is costing $100-$1200 out of pocket.

AC Discharge hose leaking, dealers replacing the hose and adding a $8 Bracket to try and correct the issue. Condensers failing and dealers on big backorder trying to get the part. Apparently GM Switched to a new supplier for the condensers.

Silverado 1500 LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

I bought a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab 4x4 new from Chevrolet. I bought the max extended warranty up to 72000 miles. It currently has 41,000 miles on it.

I have two three day weekends planned in the next month. One Atlanta and one Miami trip which I am driving.

My air conditioner went out this last weekend.

I made an appointment to take the truck in to Jack Wilson chevrolet for today at 1pm.

I received a call from Ryan the service adviser who said the a/c condenser is bad. He said there is a design flaw and they are having issues with thousands of them. It will be covered under my warranty, however it is on national back order for at least 6 weeks.

He said it will probably end up being a recall.

I asked him about a loaner or rental until then. He replied he had none.

I called ALLY the ext warranty company through GM. They said that the rental car is covered while the repair is being done. It is drivable and not covered because the A/C is not working. Doesn't matter that the temperature is 97 plus degrees.

I called chevrolet. They are aware of the 2014 silverado condenser issue and know that they are on national back order. They will not provide me with a loaner or rental either.

I asked them if they will buy my truck back since they will not loan me a vehicle and they said no.

My research thru internet and talking with a couple of dealers shows that this is a fairly common problem with 2014 thru 2017 Chevy Silverados. I am disappointed in Chevrolet for not addressing the problem in some manner. You cannot find the part thru Chevrolet and I was lucky to find the part. IN addition my radiator also has a leak and I had to replace the radiator. Total cost 1150.00 dollars. Not happy and I have owned Chev pickups since 1972.

A replacement for the leaking condenser cannot be found. The replacement AC Delco part is 4 to 6 weeks out, maybe. They are only selling the part to dealers as they come available. There must be a bunch of them failing. GM has said too bad, your problem. $900 fix if the part can be found.

AC not working and the vehicle is out of warranty. The local Dealer wants $119.00 just for the diagnostic and I have little confidence in their ability to fix the problem. The freon has leaked out so obviously there is a leak somewhere. This is a fairly new truck to have an AC go out in it. My daughter has the same truck with the same problem.

Add me to this list as well. I called up GM and they said I'm out of warranty and out of luck. Yes, I am out of warranty but for a company to not to stand by it's product after 2 years and 43k miles, is just terrible. It's not the quality of product, or more importantly, the quality of service that I have come to expect from other manufacturers. Defective parts happen. A true test of a good brand is how they deal with the defective part when they become aware of it (and when they're not forced to fix it through a safety recall). This was my first GM product and will be my very last. This A/C issue was just the straw on the camel's back. The truck does not shift very smoothly when moving at low speeds and things rattle on the interior after only 2 years. I intend to keep this for another year and trade it in for a Tundra.

Good luck to those who intend to stick with GM. It's Russian roulette to keep a GM product beyond the life of its warranty. A smart GM owner would resell before the warranty runs out. I unfortunately am not a smart GM owner. This issue is well documented by GM owners all over the internet forums. Crying shame they are losing all of these future buyers of GM products over $500.

A/C stopped working

I noticed my a/c was not blowing cold so I checked things out and found oil dripping from under the compressor. I took the vehicle to the dealership to get checked out. I dropped it off on a Saturday thinking they wouldn't look at it till Monday. Monday morning they call and say a hose busted and they can have it fixed by the afternoon. I was busy so I told them to fix it and I would ask why later. I picked up the truck and got home and noticed on the paperwork they added a new hose and bracket. I then looked at my truck and noticed a bracket on the a/c hose that was not there before. I then contacted GM directly about the issue and they have refused to reimburse me for the repair. I have even asked other GM dealerships about the a/c lines without telling them what vehicle and they say, you must be talking about the 14 model trucks. They have a design flaw in the metal part of the hose so we replace the hose and add a support bracket. I asked them why the 2016 models do not have the bracket and was told the a/c hose was redesigned for them and the new hose would not work on a 2014 model. GM knows there is a problem with the a/c hose and expects the customer to pay to fix issues due to their design flaw. Very unhappy with GM and looking at Ford or Dodge as I speak. Always been a die hard GM guy but it's looking like it's time to change.

2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 AC stopped blowing cold air at 40,000 miles. So it wasn't covered under the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty.

I had bought the extended warranty when I bought the truck from the dealer. But was told the problem was not covered under the extended warranty either. Paid 2,000 dollars for the extended warranty. I bought the truck new in October of 2014 this is July of 2016. This truck should not have any problems at all. Especially problems I have to pay 550.00 dollars for.

Was told by the dealer that a bracket had broken and a hose came loose and it would be 550.00 dollars to fix. Time to change brands

1st Chevrolet dealer charged me $330 to replace ac hoses, recharge. It cooled for two weeks. When I called them back due to no more cool air...they wouldn't take me in for three days.

I went to another Chevrolet dealer that took me in immediately.....they found from a dye test that the ac condensor unit behind the front grill, that the the welds on it were leaking dye. They replaced, and test again, no more leaks, $855...and the replacement has a lifetime warranty!! $1200 for a 2 year hold vehicle out of warranty..53,000 miles. I feel it was defective and shoould be paid by chevrolet.

So after enough problems with this truck I can describe as nothing less than a lemon the A/C has quit working. Took her in today to be told the hoses are bad and will be $800 to replace them. I told them not to bother as they won't cover it and I'm likely dumping this junker very soon.

LAST Chevy product I will ever buy, and I will continue to tell everyone I meet about this mess and how Chevy doesn't back their products at all. I mean a few safety recalls is understandable, but $50K+ truck leaving the factory to have coolant leaking into engine, radiators cracking and leaking out coolant, transmissions needing rebuilt, starters that don't work half of the time from "moisture" in them, heated/ cooled seats quit working with remote start as well, and now A/C hoses that need replaced is the FINAL STRAW.

Not only are they not covered, like the $1K radiator being replaced wasn't and the fix for the seats wouldn't be, but they offer no apologies, no explanations as to why such would be bad in such short time and offer nothing on trade in value because the could barely get rid of them new.

Going to another Toyota dealership soon to look at a Tundra. Chevy runs deep alright... deep in your wallet so they can build these trucks out of junk made in the cheapest factory in Mexico they can find.

I called Chevrolet to see if they would step up to the plate. Since I was several thousand miles over my warranty they denied my claim for their factory defect. That's fine, I know how to switch back to Ford.

Update from Aug 14, 2017: I see the number of complaints for this AC issue has continued to escalate since I posted my dissatisfaction. My mechanic said that the local Chevrolet parts dealers said this was probably a factory defect since they were replacing these so often. I wonder how many victims of GM negligence are out there. Someone needs to hold GM accountable. The compressor/AC hoses are faulty and designed poorly.
