Silverado 1500

On October 29, 2022, I auto-started my 2014 Silverado on a chilly morning. I got in the vehicle approximately 5 minutes later and turned on the ignition. As soon as I turned on the ignition I heard what sounded like a gunshot and I smelled electrical burning. I then realized that the passenger side of my back sliding window had shattered. The rear defroster also smelled like an electrical fire. Upon doing research I found that this is a known issue in the 2014-2019 Silverado's which I was never notified about. I purchased the vehicle used in March of 2021 from Basil Chevrolet in Fredonia, NY. There is currently a full recall in Canada because of the dangerous issue but not in the United States. I reached out to the dealership and Chevrolet but they refuse to do anything about it. I have yet to have the back window replaced and it is taped up but available for examination.

On the evening of 12/17/19 I remotely started the vehicle and it warmed up for probably two minutes. We started driving and smelled something burning and an electrical arcing sound. Immediately I turned off the rear defrost as that is where the smoke came from and the driver side rear window exploded. Luckily the three kids in the back seat were not injured and we didn't end up in a traffic accident, and got parked safely. After some research there are plenty of other GM customers who have experienced the same problem, and in Canada a tsb advising to remove the fuse to the rear defrost to prevent this event from happening. It seems that this potentially could've been prevented saving me a good scare and a window replacement at $840

I was driving straight down the interstate, when there was a loud pop/bang from above my head. The sunroof had exploded. The cover was shut which kept the glass from coming the cab. The some of the glass went flying into the truck of the bed. I was nowhere near an overpass or anything that could have fallen on it.

On June 3, 2018 upon cranking the truck, the A/C began blowing extremely hot air to the point it left a red mark across my hand after feeling for the vent waiting for the temperature to cool down. It was 90 degrees outside and raining so windows couldn't be rolled down. Windshield remained foggy due to humidity within the truck and I had to pull over frequently when driving in order to wipe the windshield to be able to see. Two children in the backseat of the truck, one in a rear facing car seat were beyond over heated and well on their way to heat exhaustion by the time we reached the dealership due to temperatures reaching above 95 within the cab. Truck was seen at dealership and was advised due to vibration from driving, the A/C discharge hose was cracked allowing the heat from the engine to be blown directly into the cab of the truck. Hose was replaced ad a bracket added to improve the stability of the hose and refrigerant added. Eight months and 4 days later, A/C suddenly began blowing hot air again. Was advised at the dealership that the high side service port was now leaking and needed a valve replacement and refrigerant added again.

During a recent cold spell I was driving my 2014 Silverado home with the re defroster on. Randomly I started hearing a whistling sound, then when I reached my home I saw that the rear window (to the driver side of the sliding window) had randomly shattered leaving glass pieces on the tonneau cover and had fallen in on my daughters car seat. There was no impact or other event that precipitated the shattering, but after opening and closing the door the hole has spread and more glass continues to fall out.

Fuel pump/fuel pressure sensor failure at 34000 miles. Driving vehicle at 40mph and suddenly engine warning light came on and truck died. Lost all power and could barely pull to side of road in busy traffic. Driving on state hwy 15 North bound. Fortunately my wife was able to control the pickup. Dealer repaired and said it was a relatively common problem. Second complaint was wiper failure in heavy snow/wind on county hwy 29 brown cty mn. Fuse block corroded and caused failure. Travelling at 55mph when failure occurred. Managed to drive home (2 miles) with out incident but very dangerous. The part was described by the dealer as the BCM fuse block. Both of these problems were life threatening.

I am the 2nd owner and have only owned it for 10 months. I have frequently heard cracking/popping noises while driving, but no other traffic near, and no damage to windshield. This morning, I got in the truck and noticed a very large crack in the windshield. As I haven't ever hit a rock in this truck, I was very curious. Upon closer inspection, there is zero evidence of any external factors that would have caused such a large and spontaneous crack to appear while I was in bed sleeping last night. To be fair, I haven't reported it to a dealer yet since I just found the crack this morning, but that will be my next step, although I'm highly pessimistic that they will be willing to do anything about (what appears in my opinion to be) a defective windshield. My very first search on the internet led me to many many other consumers who have reported the same problems (mysterious crack/pop sounds when no other traffic is around, or driving slowly, and sudden/spontaneous cracks with no associated damage to the glass. To be clear, this crack appeard over night while I was sleeping!

A/C only blows hot air, cannot defog windows at certain times and increases the likely hood of my newborn getting over heated. It is a known issue with General Motors and they said it is the NHTSA that will not do the recall because it is not dangerous. Well we will see how dangerous it is when we cant see because it will not defog window or what the hospital bill will be when my newborn overheats because of a faulty A/C compressor and bracket for the hose. A 2014 should not need a $1600 repair. That is 3 months payments for a A/C.
