Silverado 1500 LTZ V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 149,000 miles

I purchased this 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500, going by the dealers word that it had no recalls. I drove this vehicle across country, with my family and a trailer in tow. God is so good, we had pulled in for a stop, the vehicle just locks, I CANT START IT, THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM COMES ON, IT;S LIKE THE VEHICLE IS POSSED, WE ARE DEAD IN THE WATER SO TO SPEAK. We just so happen to have the windows down, Once this happens there is no way to get out of the vehicle. If this had happened while in motion pulling the trailer, I may not have been here to report this, my daughter was driving close behind me...wow. I didn't know what to do or why this was happening, so the only number I had was the young man from the sales department, so I called him, to ask why was this happening? He informed me that he did not know and he would look online and get back to me, he did not.

I called my nephew who is a mechanic in California, mind you I am back in Colorado. He told me he did not know either that was news to him. The only thing I could think to ask him was if I disconnect the battery, and try a reset on the system. Well I could unlock the doors, but the vehicle would not start, we did a jump start, but I was afraid to turn it off again, and we still had 2 more hours before getting home, still pulling a trailer. The sales guy never said please return it so that we can see what the problem may be or nothing. I was going through such a stressful time I didn't think to return it to them. At the time of purchase they signed the vehicle history stating no RECALLS, this vehicle has 18 Recalls all hazardous to your life.

Be careful when buying because in the VEHICLE HISTORY/RECALL DISCLOSURE IT STATES "I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PRIOR TO PURCHASE. DID THEY SAY MAMA DO YOU WANT TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE AN HAVE IT CHECKED. NO THEY DID NOT. They knew this vehicle was a dangerous lemon .

Recently the same dealer ship sent me out a notice of SERVICE ALERT FOR THEIS VEHICLE, AND LOW AND BE HOLD IT HAD IMPORTANT RECALL INFORMATION. That lead me to do more investigations on the vehicle. I am returning this truck to them, I don't know if they are going to be kind and give me another vehicle or not. God only knows and time will tell. I will keep you updated as to what happens. BUT WORD TO THE WISE IF YOU HAVE THIS VEHICLE GET RID OF IT

Silverado 1500 LT 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

Non-stop Electrical Problems since I bought it. Dealers say no problems detected.

The Theft Deterrent system locks steering wheel and won't start. I have to rip back and forth to "disengage". Dealer said they had no idea. Now it's out of warranty. Happens maybe 1x per month. I am sure it is tied to the ton of other electrical issues.

Silverado 1500 LS 4.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,467 miles

Truck was not turning over, then noticed the anti theft warning. Tried everything I knew and could look up but could not reset the anti theft system. So far it cost me ever just shy of $200 to tow the truck to the dealership.

I looked up the issue and see that others have had this issue and see no solutions as of yet. Truck is in the shop at Shaw GMC in Calgary and the service tech says he has never had this issue. Asked them to assess the issue and get back to me with a dollar amount.

I will update this site with what happens and costs because every issue I looked at claims that service and manufacturers claim it isn't their fault and its an unknown random encounter.

Update from Jun 20, 2019: After talking to everyone up to GM care. There was no solution to this auto theft deterrent issue. My dealership gave me a 2019 Silverado to make me happy. I have a long standing with my sales guy and dealership but as for the issue itself, there is no solution. It is a known issue though rare. Do your homework so you know what to talk to people about. Then make them trade your vehicle.

I wish you the same luck I had, but get rid of your vehicle if this happens to you. It can not be fixed!

Silverado 1500 LS 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,148 miles

At around 55,000 mi, the truck started f*cking up. I've had numerous messages, service stabilitrac, 3 keys are programmed for vehicle, theft deterrent system, roll down and up drivers side window, I've also had the steering wheel jerked out of my hand, the engine kill, and towards the end, the whole truck died and the only way to revive it was to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and reconnect it.

The dealership, Best Chevrolet changed out my battery for $330. and that did absolutely nothing. Then after watching 2 YouTube videos, they said the problem was g218, a ground wire under the dashboard. The dealership had me scheduled to charge my negative battery cable for $480. but didn't have the part in stock. I took the truck home and fixed the ground under the dash myself. So far I haven't had any more problems.

Fingers crossed.

I've had this truck for two years, and its acting as if I bought it from a junk yard. This is just one of the many problems that this vehicle has brought to me, & it isn't the first time it's happened either. Its left me in the middle of I-35 before and on other occasions I've had to miss work cause of it! Thank god I still have the two year guarantee or I'd be in debt of how many problems this vehicle has gave me, but what will I do when it ends?! Have it sit in the garage until I have enough money to fix it?! I'm not paying over $700 dollars per month for it to give me this sh*t!
