Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 81,000 miles

My issue is I work on Long Island NY but, live in Columbia County NY approx 189 miles away. I'm only glad I didn't break down on the road in the middle of NY state. At 81,000 miles my transmission should NOT seize. I take care of my vehicles, oil changes at regular intervals and anytime an engine light or,anything goes off I contact my service guys. I must add that I traded in my other Silverado for a preowned 2014 with 67,000 on it. I've had this truck for 6 months...from DePaula Chevrolet in Albany NY. Come on....I don't beat on my cars. My last tranny gone awry was a 1979 Pontiac GrandPrix..that blew on 114 st in NYC....that was fun. thank my lucky stars I got a comprehensive with Zurich...it was a few sheckles but...I'M COVERED. My advice IS...if you buy used with mileage..GET the COVERAGE. This still blows because ALL of the local service GM places are jammed up...My vehicle shouldn't have seized on me...I WILL let them know..and anyone else who's interested.

Dec 012018

Silverado 1500 LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,000 miles

4th gear slips each time speed gets around 30-40 mph. Engine light appeared - hooked up a reader to find out the codes for that check engine light. Codes: P0700 and P0796 appeared.

Took truck into "mom & pop" auto service shop. They removed the transmission pan to get to the filter. Cut the filter open and found metal debris in the filter. The shop recommended replacing the transmission. Searched around for a refurbished trans or used trans only to find that the cost of them were just a couple hundred dollars cheaper. It made more sense to get a new transmission with the 3year/100K Mile Warrenty. The cost of transmission and labor is about $3,700.

Update from Dec 4, 2018: GM really should back their products a bit more. Too many issues are occurring with this truck it is only 4 years old - pathetic.

Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,800 miles

While starting from a stop facing downhill, coasted until the vehicle reached level ground and started to slow, I pushed the pedal, and vehicle would only rev up, would not got forward, while in drive. Nothing for a least 150 feet.

Tried changing from Drive to Neutral. No change.

No transmission engagement until the vehicle was almost to a stop, then vehicle started moving as gas was applied. Heard the transmission engage at that point.
