Silverado 1500

  • 50,020 miles
On my way home pulling a 5000 lbs boat and trailer on a public highway and suddenly my brakes get hard as a rock and loose the ability to basically stop with any quick response. After limping the truck a short distance to a friends business I learn this truck has a brake power assist pump"??????????" call me old fashion but the vacuum usually comes from the intake manifold, not a rinky dink pump with a belt to drive it. Totally unsafe in my opinion. Something as important as brakes to be relied on a rubber band and a 5 dollar china bearing. I feel this is a poor and unsafe design and could easily been avoided. Now comes the enjoyment of having it repaired and only a dealer available part. Truck just turned 50K and my dealership is telling me this item is not.covered under warranty.

Silverado 1500

  • 41,000 miles
On two separate occasions within a 1 week period, the brake pedal became impossible to depress with the vehicle in motion. A noise could be heard similar to that of an active ABS. The first time this occurred while pulling into a crowded parking lot. I had to use the emergency brake to prevent a collision with a parked vehicle. The second time this occurred, I was parking at a curb in the main area of my town and again had to utilize the emergency brake to avoid hitting a parked vehicle. Internet research leads me to believe this to be a common issue with multiple reports of the same experience.

The brakes will become very hard to press when they become hot. Driving at low speeds and in reverse, after the brakes are hot (highyway driving, then down to city traffic). Very dangerous if not aware of this issue.

problem #36

Mar 222018

Silverado 1500

  • 49,000 miles
I was backing into a parking stall the the brakes failed again! brake pedal was solid and would not depress to slow the truck to a stop. Only after extreme pedal pressure was there any braking action, but only slight. Because of this I hit the wall behind the truck. If someone was there, I would not have been able to stop. GM/Chevrolet have a service bulletin out on this issue. An internet search came back with 312,000 results. I've talked to my selling Chevrolet dealer and they reluctant to deal with it. Does somebody need to die before something is done. This is the 4th or 5th time my brakes have failed.

Silverado 1500

  • 50,000 miles
Have not even had my Chevy for a year and the brakes seized up causing the vehicle to not stop. Noticed there has been some issues having it towed to a Chevy dealership to see the cause of the problem, looks as if GM is aware of the problem, so don't know why I was not notified of this issue, could of been a very serious accident as I travel on the freeway at high speeds.

While in a parking lot, there was an almost complete loss of brakes. The brake pedal would not depress. Only after pressing multiple times and very hard was there any braking action which slowed the truck. GM has issued a service bulletin, pit5361 about this issue. This is a known issue.

problem #32

Feb 012018

Silverado 1500

  • 62,000 miles
Truck has 62K. Truck will not stop at low speeds. Could easily back into and or over something or someone very easily. More frequent when at low speeds and while backing up. I almost backed into a roll up door before slamming on the parking brake. Took truck into dealership and was told that the vacuum pump, vacuum belt and hose from vacuum pump to brake booster needed to be changed. This is not a warranty fix.

Silverado 1500

I was driving on the highway at 50 miles an hour during rush hour traffic, traffic began slowing down and as I went to push on the break, it was extremely hard. I could not push the break down at all, and my car would not slow down. I placed it in neutral and was pushing as hard as I could on the break with both feet. Finally, the truck began to slow down. I put me emergency lights on and crosses over 5 lanes of traffic, as I was in the carpool lane, to get off the highway. It was a very dangerous and scary situation.

Jan 122018

Silverado 1500

  • 46,000 miles
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle began to lose vacuum pressure when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The contact stated that the brakes engaged once the vehicle reached 1,000 rpms. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to performance Chevrolet (4811 madison ave, sacramento, ca 95841) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.

problem #29

Jan 062018

Silverado 1500

  • 37,600 miles
Noticed failure of vehicle to stop. Lack of power assist braking at slow speeds. Brake pedal is rock hard with little to zero travel (1/4' at most). Vehicle will continue to move (regardless of pressure applied to brake pedal) for several feet. While this has occurred in both forward and reverse gears; the issue is consistently observed in reverse.

problem #28

Dec 212017

Silverado 1500

  • 663,500 miles
Received an alert around 63,500 miles "alert: Service break assist." Dealership service advisor notified me that problem was "brake master cylinder leaking into vacuum boster. Both need to be replaced." Cost $1172.61. Break basically wouldn't work properly when pressed. This should not happen so early. I've only had truck for two years. Chevrolet needs to fix this. This could have caused an injury to myself or my family.

problem #26

Dec 022017

Silverado 1500

  • 40,000 miles
When pumping my brakes for traffic, backing out of driveway or driving in general etc., brakes will fail and my truck keeps rolling. Not safe what so ever as I am stomping on the brakes as hard as I can and the truck will not stop. Please fix this issue by contacting Chevrolet for a recall. This has happened to multiple friends and family with this truck model and year. It is a problem and GM needs to know about it before somebody gets killed for brake failure. Truck is not even past 40,000 miles!!!

problem #24

Nov 172017

Silverado 1500

  • 58,000 miles
The truck experienced a hard brake pedal at low RPM, stop light, parking lot, etc. When brake is depressed the pedal is hard to press and the braking ability is reduced and the truck will continue to roll. Chevrolet is aware of the problem and issued a bulletin in February 2015, my 2015 was purchased in September 2015. When I complained of the issue at dealer, I was told I am out of warranty and would have to pay a portion of the repair on a known defect.

Brake pedal gets very hard when driving at slow speeds and in reverse. Makes a ticking sound like the anti lock brakes are kicking in but no dash lights illuminate. Almost rear ended a vehicle travelling 25mph but was able to pull in a parking lot to avoid collision. Truck has 79xxx miles
