I initially noticed the whine when I was doing the 45000 mile maintenance on my Pathfinder. I immediately recognized the whine as a power steering whine, so I checked the fluid. The fluid was low, so I added the manufacture recommended fluid. The whine didn't get better so we took the car to the dealer. Not only is power steering not covered by warranty, but the dealer acted like they had never heard of this widely known issue. They tried to get my wife to pay $125 for a diagnostic (which likely would have resulted in them telling us the same thing they tell everyone: "it just makes noise sometimes")
So a $45K Pathfinder is expected to sound like the power steering is going out when it is supposedly functioning normally? Crazy...
I am disappointed in the pitiful warranty Nissan has reduced itself to. This will be my last Nissan.
