Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,000 miles

Bought it brand new, and the shifting to and out of 1st was noticeable from the beginning. I wasn't sure if that was something that needed to be broke in (first new truck), or what. I didn't think about it being an issue, since it was brand new. But it's has continued to do it. Now I see that many other are experiencing the the same issue, and that's not normal.

Silverado 1500 High Country 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,000 miles

Started to tell the transmission doesn't always want to shift correctly. When making turns and the transmission shifts down it isn't a smooth shifting but more like hesitations in shifting down and back up. Shifts HARD during acceleration and almost seems to be slipping.

Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,127 miles

Bought my Chevy Silverado Z71 May 9 2017. It is certified pre-owned and only had 12000 miles on it. It has the 5.3 L with the 8 speed automatic transmission. Starting noticing a hard shift from 1st to 2nd after driving it a week or so. Called the dealership. Took it to them, they said the could fix that in 30 minutes. Said "the truck was learning my driving habits." They reset the computer. Said it should be fine now and that the previous owner probably drove it more aggressively. Still shifting hard. Took it on a trip to Missouri and started feeling that "hard shift" when it would downshift from 3rd to 2nd. Finally, called them because it developed a rough idle. Took it to the dealership December. They had to replace the motor mounts to stop the rough idle. Said they would have to reset each gear manually since it's computerized. Ended up in a loaner car for 1 night. Picked up my truck the next day. Shifting the same. Mechanic said that it was normal shifting. Service person said that's just the way that truck shifts. Took it back yesterday to drive another Z71 to compare shifting. It seems to do the same thing but way more smoother. I called gm directly to complain. They have made a case number and will keep me posted. My dad owns a 2009 Z71, it shifts FINE! My 2000 Z71 shifted FINE! Chevy needs to fix this. This isn't normal for a transmission to shift this hard. I'm worried that it will break down after my warranty expires. This needs to be a recall GM. Transmissions aren't supposed to shift like this!
