Silverado 1500 LTZ 5 3

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,500 miles

This truck has never shifted normal to me, I work at GM and have owned many trucks. This definitely doesn't shift smoothly at all. Always was jerking and then it slipped and started making a whining noise and driving down the highway it just lost power and the tach was jumping.

I pulled over and turned it off and the battery was dead. Towed it home, replaced battery and still no gears at all. No 4x4 either. It would move if you started the engine and quickly put in gear, but only for a few seconds and then would quit.

The transmission guy said the filter was full of metal and shutting down the pump. 5k to replace, this is absolutely ridiculous for only having 91k miles. Extended warranty ran out at 72k. GM needs to own this, these vehicles have become so over priced and the reliability has certainly fallen short. It seems they're just not built to last anymore. They just want to keep you in debt by always needing to replace them.

GM for many years had a 100k warranty on the drivetrain. You will now notice extended warranties are very expensive. That's because of the high failure rate. They also, no longer honor the employee discount. My next vehicle will not be GM. Many of my friends at work have done the same and bought others.

What I can't believe is why was only the 8 speed transmission part of the class action suit? This transmission clearly has an extremely high failure rate. The average @120k miles from what I have researched and confirmed by transmission shops. All say they currently have a 2014-2017 Silverado in their shop getting a transmission now!

Silverado 1500 LT Z71 5.3L V8

Just waiting for the class action lawsuit at this point. Should NOT have transmission failure on a Z71 that is only 5 years old. WTF Chevy!?

Silverado 1500

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

Transmission started to make sounds when slowing down.

I paid out of pocket for: Overhaul kit Converter Valve kit Shift kit Filter Transmission fluid New bearing New gear set

$4500! 2 weeks unable to work without my pickup truck. That's another $2,000 in wages.

Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

I am not impressed with GM and will never own one again. Bought the truck 6 months ago for the transmission to go. It's not shifting past second gear. I have been a diehard Chevy guy. I called Chevy itself to see if there is anything and the guy tells me the truck isn't new and has high mileage at 78k on it and then hangs up on me before I can even ask my question.

I'm done with GM. After this repair I'm going to Dodge or Ford.

Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles

I had a transmission go bad on a truck with only 54000 miles, almost unheard of.

Do not buy a Chevy, I traded it in and got a Ford...

Seriously.
