Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,500 miles

The power passenger side mirror broke when unfolded. Always fold in the mirrors when I park. When l pushed the button to open the mirrors the drive side opened to the normal position. However, there was a popping sound and the passenger side rotated past the normal position, rotating almost 180 degrees. This broke the something in the housing of the mirror and the mirror was basically flopping in the wind.

Took the truck to the dealer the first thing the next morning hoping this was a simple solution, but turns out it is a major pain in the rear. Was informed that they would have to order parts to fix the mirror. To make it where I could safely drive the truck a technician had to wedge cardboard into the gap left between the mirror housing and then wrap the housing with electrical tape. Nothing like having a mirror taped in place on a new $55K truck. Might not be too bad of an issue if we were talking about a day or two to get the part, but I was informed yesterday that the parts on back order. As of today, I have no idea as to when they will get the part and I can take the electrical tape off my new truck.
