Silverado 1500

  • 1,056 miles
Started truck and immediately traction control, malfunction indicator lamp, and brake light appeared on dash. Messages also appeared saying the vehicle will not exceed 43 mph, and that the brake system had failed. Avoided expressway going home, and was not able to exceed 43 mph. Next day Chevrolet roadside assistance towed truck to riverside Chevrolet, wetumpka, al. Service rep said master cylinder "came apart" and nothing like this was seen before (they sell and service a lot of trucks). Master cylinder replaced. Drove truck home about 25 miles and brakes worked fine. Will update if problem happens again.

Silverado 1500

  • 7,500 miles
Vehicle is producing a hard shift between 1st & 2nd gear primarily on cold starts. More recently is has been doing more through out the day but not as serve. This started around 7500 miles, currently at 23,000+. the vehicle has now been to three dealers (6+ attempts) with no resolution. One dealer took the valve body off for inspection and cleaning. Other dealers have tried reprogramming. Last attempt at repair was the week 8/25/2020 with no resolution as they could not duplicate the issue (had the vehicle for a week). The next day I experienced the harsh shift twice in one day. I also experience transmission slippage at constant speeds between 45 & 60mph. A bulletin came out from GM the week of 8/25/2020 indicating note to repair/replace the transmission as this is normal. How is this normal when it shift so hard it through the occupants forward and rearward in the seat. How is this safe for a young child/toddler? this has the potential to cause whiplash in younger children. I have in firm believe this is a cause for my neck and shoulder pain. As an added note: I have been working with the GM executive resolution team on this issue and again no resolution. I am also experiencing an issue with the parking brake coming on by itself when the vehicle is completely off and the key out of the vehicle. Again dealers cannot duplicate even though one service rep witnessed it while dropping the vehicle off for service. This is a safety issue for anyone performing brake service as the brake could activate and cause a pinch point. Overall I have several other electrical issues regarding radio, dic display & cruise control. Only the dic display has been corrected. I also have had leaking rear slider and squeaks in the front left dash, right front floorboard and upper LH B-pillar. I also had the left dash panel replaced due to a broken tab. Video upon request

Pulled out of a construction site after a work day and the wheels on my truck locked up right in the middle of the road. If I was pulling into a highway, I would not be writing this right now. The truck was idling for about 2 hours before I pulled out into traffic. The way the wheels stopped, it felt like the parking brake is engaging when I drive. Maybe this is some kind of limp mode to prevent damage. If that is the case, it is a very dangerous fail-safe to implement on a vehicle that people depend on for work. I do not think it is a coincidence that this is the first Silverado model with an electronic parking brake. Oh yah, and this just coincidentally happened 1000 miles after my bumper-to-bumper warranty expired. Also, GM customer service is just a call center in india. Don't bother calling them.

  • 8,900 miles
Purchased vehicle last October. Mileage indicates 8857 miles, and brake indication says 97% brake life left. It was less than that a few months after owning it, then went to 97% and has stayed there. Dealer says brake pads a fine. Yes, no doubt but there is no way 97% can be left. Transmission at times harmers into gear when shifting from first to second gear. Document id 4605342 states first shift of the day maybe harsh. It's not just the first shift of the day that it happens. There are times shifting between first and second gear the vehicle briefly slows then hammers into second gear that jolts you in your seat, enough you shake in your seat. The most recent time it happened I was moving in a paved parking lot.

On May 22, 2020, my husband [xxx] was driving on foothill ave in fontana, ca towards cherry ave and he then attempted to brake, the brakes did not respond and a message of system brake failure appeared and all the message lights on the dashboard came on. As he could not brake, he went through red lights and stop accelerating the truck until slowing down. He was then able to get into a gas station as the truck was slowing down and shift the truck to parking. The check engine light came on. My husband took the truck to the dealer on May 23, 2020 and after explaining what happened to the service representative, he indicated that they could not service the truck as an appointment was needed. My husband then waited until the appointment date on 06/06/20 for the truck to be service. On 12/21/19 the truck was service for brake system failure recall and this incident happened to my husband. This was a traumatic situation and we do not feel confortable driving the truck. There were no major injuries and hope that this never happens. I hope there is something that can be resolve as people's lives should to be place at risk of being injured. A complaint was file with GM however they denied the repurchase of the truck. Redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

06/26/2020 I was involved in an accident where my brakes failed. I have had all previous recalls, and one of the recalls made the brake failure worse than the origional brake recalls. I was following at a safe distance when the car if ft of mr stopped quickly. I applied hard brake pressure(easily enough pressure to properly stop) but pressing hard the truck slowed down but at full hard push brake pedal my truck a Chevy Silverado 2020 just wouldnt stop correctly. There is a current recall for this issue I'm finding out now that it has happened to me. My truck has been taken into shop but I need to know my options and where to go from here. I've advised my insurance co of this recall defect and have contacted my attorney to seek damages.

My truck is just over a year old. Has had 4 recalls on the braking system alone. One for excessive brake pad wear. The rear fenders have outward dents on them causing the paint to chip away. Dealership replaced drivers side, waiting to do passenger side. Rear spoiler was leaking and flooded the back seat of the truck was repaired. Front passenger window became inoperable, ( repaired) rear dome light not working correctly ( not repaired) as noted on the vehicle history it had a hard shift out of park. A year later still does. When there is multiple recalls and reprogramming of braking systems I do not feel safe driving with my self in the car let alone my kids or my wife. I live in a very mountain area. I am scared to death to pull my boat or trailers down the mountains in fear of the brakes that have been worked on so many times in a year actually work.. I can see one or maybe two times but not 5 or 6.

After performing the latest recalls the check engine light illuminated with a P25A2 code. I did not notice any change in the vehicle handling or performance. After I took the vehicle to the dealership for service they told me that they couldn't find an error code, only the P25A2 code which is to illuminate the check engine light. I believe it was the brake system that triggered the light if I recall what the service technician told me correctly. Additionally, at idle speed, especially while turning the steering wheel the vehicle seems to lung forward at times creating the risk of a potential front end collision.

  • 12,600 miles
Add me to the service ESC group.... 12600 miles 2019 Silverado 5.3 this happened after the recall was completed at my local Chevy dealer, the truck through code P25A2 (the engine and transmission system is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the engine electrical system, including the charging and starting system that monitors and controls the engine starting system and 12V battery charging system. If the charge system light stays on, or comes on while driving, there may be a problem with the electrical charging system. Driving while this light is on could drain the battery. Several other lights came on as well, tc, break towing ect. A message stating use caution, do not drive over 62 mph also came on. During this the breaks became mushy and the truck was difficult to stop. I will be taking the truck back to the Chevy dealership in hopes they can fix the issue before myself or another person gets hurt in a crash caused by these issues.

I bought the 1st truck in December. The brakes failed on orange blossom trail in orlando. Brakes would not stop vehicle and the dash light up like a christmas tree. I took it to the dealer and they said it needed a master cylinder but could not get it because Chevy was on strike. I traded in and got a second vehicle. They did the recall on it before I took it and then the brakes failed so I took it into the dealer. They did an update on it and I left with it the same day. About a month later the brakes failed... first time on 436 in orlando Florida I was behind a school bus and they went out. Luckily I was far enough behind it I could get pulled over. Second time I was on SR434 and 17/92 in longwood at a red light. I took it to the dealer and they said it needs a new master cylinder. Keep in mind this is the second truck. 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500. I tried to trade it back in to get out of the 1500 into a 2500 and they wanted me to take a $17,000 hit. Chevy would not do anything to help me. I have made two total payments on it. I paid 50K and owe $44327 on it.

I get into the vehicle while at my storage unit facility and within seconds turn the vehicle on by pressing the button on the dashboard. I immediately put the car in reverse. Three seconds after I am moving in reverse instrument panel starts flashing warning messages such as no speed over 62 mph, electronic brake systems something, service engine light came on and stayed on, and once again I was without brakes! I was not going fast, nor in traffic, but the fact remains I had no brakes, again! this issue was 'fixed' two months earlier in another recall for the brakes. This is not the first time I lost the ability to brake, but this will be the last time. This vehicle needs to be recalled in its entirety, I mean taken off the streets. It's not just the drivers of the truck who are in danger, other drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists are also in danger. A fatality is imminent but I ask the NHTSA how many fatalities before this dangerous vehicle is taken off the road? every safety device on this vehicle has been recalled: Airbags, seatbelt, and brake systems. This vehicle is not safe. The number of people who have lost the ability to brake are far greater than what is reported here. Please don't expect GM to fix this issue when they don't even know the cause behind the problem to begin with! first it was onstar, now it is the company they hired to create their computerized brakes. Computers having so much control over vehicles, I'm learning, is not safe. Please contact me for more information. I'm more than happy to share my terrifying experiences with anyone who can help my fellow americans and myself!

While traveling in the left hand lane of a 4 lane divided highway we noticed the vehicle in front of us was not moving. We were going approximately 58 mph. We could not move to the right lane due to vehicles entering that lane from an on ramp. We were about 100 yards away when we realized the vehicle in front of us was not moving. We immediately slammed on the brakes. The truck did not stop. We had a very severe collision. We slammed into the rear of the vehicle in front of us. That vehicle went left into the guardrail and we finally stopped on the rear bumper of the vehicle that had initially stopped with half of their vehicle still in the left hand lane. Talking later with my spouse we both realized neither of us felt the anti-lock brakes engage. There was no sound that is usually associated with braking hard. I took pictures at the scene. I found it odd that there were no skid marks. It was a clear day and shortly after 11 am. The airbags deployed. My husband required treatment at the local er. The truck was totalled.

2/19/2020, after already having other complaints on here. I was leaving the gym, and as I was pulling out of the parking space I needed to press the brakes, and had to stand on them to get it to stop. Steering was locked up and finally got it stop. Upon starting my truck the brake system failure 62 mph top speed warning appeared, service ESC and service trailer brakes. My check engine light illuminated. I turned off my truck waited a couple minutes restarted the warnings did not appear but my check engine light is still illuminated. I drove approximately 5 miles did not exceed 40mph I drove with extreme caution and arrived home safely. It was brought to my attention that there is a current recall that is the result from a software update that was done by the dealership when my truck was being serviced in Dec 2019 for a recall. The new recall could result in a crash.
