problem #2

Jul 082020

Silverado 1500 RST 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,500 miles

Turned on the truck and the radio turned on with the volume set to MAX. Couldn't turn the volume down. Turning the volume dial and attempting to turn the radio off did nothing to resolve the problem. Having had other issues with the truck I knew that the dealer would need to actually see and verify the problem personally before it would be believed.

Drove the truck to the dealership but didn't turn it off so they could send a tech out to experience exactly what was described above. They took it into the service bay immediately but I had to wait two and a half hours while they reset the software system and re-flashed it with the most current version.

Side Note: Software seems to be a huge problem area with these newer vehicles. The government requires all sorts of features and requirement to be built into the new vehicles. I don't see the software problem getting better in the near future. These failures could be intentional to try and "encourage" people to buy a battery powered car, which utilize even more software in order to operate.

Silverado 1500 LT V8

I was having the problem within a week after buying, but thought it was my Galaxy 3 phone, but I bought a g7, and now have a pixel 3, and still having the problem. It with just turn off on its own, and comes back on before I can get picture and it happens randomly, and the worst is, I will be talking on phone, the call will just drop and you can't tell because shows call is still on, then call drops all way off, and then radio screen is on, but no sound. You can't change radio channel or change screens, until you turn off bluetooth, and can't call out or receive a call.

At first I could just walk away from truck with phone and then it would start working, but now if I don't stop and turn truck off and keep trying to see if it is work can take from 5 minutes to over an hour and half. And can happen about anytime you are on phone. My daughter and son in law have been on phone with me when it has happened.

They say they can't get it to duplicate while in at service center, which I believe, I can't get it to do either, when I want. I have video of it locking up, but I can unhook from bluetooth, and then make calls, and receive calls. But Chevy in July after 3 times in dealership in July changed radio out, and had to come back in 2 mores times in July for change out, total 5 times to get new radio, that didn't fix anything. But I'm still having same problem a week later after change. And Chevrolet won't do buy back because they can't duplicate it at service dept. even though I have video of lock up.

I love way truck looks and runs, and rides, I'd just like to have a radio that isn't defective. But I'm fed up after 6 months of problems. Battery went bad in November, I was getting brake malfunction and esc needs service and parking brake needs services lights, and radio is acting up, and started to have to jump truck to start it. All that happened on a weekend, and I had to go to dealership that Monday. Just a bunch of crap. Been trying to work with them, they have had my truck since 12-9-19, and now I am driving a truck loaner with same radio, to see if it is my phone causing it.

According to dealership GM knows they have the problem, but just redoing an old update to get it to work temporary. I am going to call lawyer, don't see any other thing I can do. The loaner truck with same type radio have had it since 12-24-19, and no problems with lock up so far. I have been on phone in loaner from 15 minutes to an hour, and am calling from truck to see if it will act up. Chevy is a joke.
