I was passing a line of vehicles when a semi started over into my lane. I hit the gas, to avoid being hit by the truck. When I did warning light on my vehicle appeared on the display. I lost speed and immediately heard a loud knocking from the engine. I was on an open 4 lane highway and knew there was a dealer close by. I drove to the dealership, I left the vehicle running so they could hear it. The service tech told me they had seen "several" vehicles in with the same problem with the 5.3L. I left the vehicle there and was given a loaner. They told me the lifter had gone bad when I sped up quickly, and the camshaft was damaged. Further research by me has discovered a lot of vehicles have this same issue due to the active fuel management system. I chose not to pay Chevrolet $7000 to fix the engine, and currently have it in a private shop being repaired. A less experienced driver may have slammed on the brakes or swerved and caused a major accident. My vehicle did slow down on its own, but I was able to keep control and safely maneuver to the right lane.

Engine lost power while driving. Was able to make it to the dealer. They stated that the lifters were shredded and the camshaft was damaged so the engine had to be replaced along with the radiator due metal shavings found everywhere. Vehicle was maintain at the dealership and only had 95000 miles. Dealer did not offer any assistance and GM only offered 10% off. Purchased engine on my own and had installed.

engine replacement at 60k miles due to metal pieces broken down and shredded in engine, happened while driving. dealer replaced engine because i had extended warranty. Few months later the transmission failed and they replace with a brand new transmission because i had extended warranty. Now 15k miles later my wheels randomly lock up when turning corners. very dangerous. I can dig for every fine detail and time stamps and paper tail but i saw article on gm issues with engine and wanted to share. they didn-??t want me to come forward when all of this happened.

Vehicle has been maintained perfectly with full records. 99, 300 miles. Vehicle suddenly lost power at 55 mph, loud noise from the engine compartment. Immediately stopped and had the vehicle towed to the Chevrolet dealership. Diagnosed with DOD failure, required complete engine replacement. Explicitly told by this dealership and four others that I called for comparison price, stated that this is a known weakness, a known -??defect-?? for years. It does seem very criminal to me that neither you nor GM/Chevrolet has not taken action on this known and very public issue. My cost was just over $13,000 +2 weeks rental $900, plus $300 towing.

GM 5.3 Liter V8 engines are known to have lifters lock up and bend push rods or destroy the camshaft resulting in engine replacement or rebuild. GM's fix is to replace the badly designed lifters with the exact same ones hoping that they will last past the warranty period thereby putting the entire cost of replacement on the owners. GM is well aware of the lifter issue but denies any responsibility. A simple google of 5.3 lifter failure will show thousands of complaints and experiences from various auto boards/pages. My Lifters went out while doing 75mph on the highways resulting in immediate slowdown with cars having to swerve to avoid hitting me while i pulled over to the side.

Very similar to the issues of the just released recall on 2021-2024 Mechanic suspects it-??s either cam/lifters and/or bearing rod issue Vehicle has NOT been repaired as of today 04/30/2025

In 2022 we experienced harsh shifting between gears and had dealership assess and they flushed the transmission. We were told other than that there is no remedy. The problem still persisted occasionally. Recently while driving the EPC light and check engine appeared as well as engine shacking and jerking. We-??re broke down on side of busy highway. Getting it back into dealership preliminary testing is that there is engine misfire and transmission. Frustration that GM is in class action lawsuit for transmission issues and that we had it inspected before with being told nothing more can be done. Vehicle is currently in shop being diagnosed for repairs.

I had a lifter failure on 8/12/2024 with only 66,994 miles on the truck. Not only did I have lifter failure it also damaged the camshaft. It is documentation of this issue. I was at a stop light when the truck started what felt like bouncing and when I accelerated it hesitated then all my lights on the dashboard came on. Then I could hear a ticking sound and when I would come to a stop the engine felt like it went from forth gear to first gear and would slam into a stop. Then the SES light and Service traction light came on Yes, the problem was confirmed by a Chevrolet dealership and stated they have been having issues with this happening in 2020-2022 Silverado's and have seen it in the 2019 models as well. There was another Silverado same year also at the dealership for the exact same problem. Yes, the component was inspected at the service department at the dealership. No there was no warning of any kind

Driving on a farm to market road, I passed a slow dump truck, when I let off the gas, every light on my dash came on, I lost all power and my engine started knocking. I Had 60662 miles on it. I bought it with 442 miles on it. The rod bearing went out and threw the rod thru the block. Complete engine replacement. The issue is not only on the 6.2 motors, I know many 5.3 ecotec owners that have had this issue as well as me. gm file # 9-13551227044.

I own a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a 6.2 liter L87 engine that is currently part of class action lawsuits. While driving down the highway with a car full of passengers at around 75-80mph, the vehicle shut down and would not accelerate. Frantically from the left lane, I crossed traffic almost causing an accident multiple times, to the shoulder of the highway. I then called for a tow truck to tow the vehicle as it would not start. The vehicle was towed three hours later, to the dealer (Quirk Chevrolet) and I walked off of the highway with the group of people. We then ubered home. The dealer diagnosed some mechanical issues that they said were the issue and -??repaired-?? the vehicle. I picked the vehicle up three days later. Three weeks after that I was driving down the highway at about the same speed, 75-80mph, and my vehicle shut off again and was unresponsive. I had to then cut across three lanes of traffic frantically again and I coasted off of the highway due to an off ramp being right there and me acting quickly. The vehicle was unable to start for about 20 minutes and when I finally got it started it was making a loud audible knocking noise. I shut it down and called for a tow truck to the same dealer I had it serviced at a few week prior. I got a call the following day stating my vehicle needed an engine replacement and that I was most likely going to have to wait four months or more for it. They stated that they did not have any loaner vehicles available for me due to four other 6.2L engines needing replacement and if they had any available in the coming months, they would all be midsize SUVs. They stated that there was nothing they could due to get me a truck and only a midsize was offered which would not be any time soon anyways. I called three other Chevy dealers in the area and they stated that they all had between 3-5 seized 6.2L engines in the shop. There were no warning signs prior to this happening minus the repairs stated above and maybe a tic
