I have a vehicle that was purchased 10/2019 that had 23 miles on it. I've taken it to the dealer for servicing and they've told me nothing was wrong with it several times, still charging me for services. I had taken it to get a tune up while in Arizona, @SunDevil Auto on 9/2023 with 107000 miles on it. I drove it back home to Arkansas 9/22/2023. I told them the issues it was having with upshifting. When I had gotten back, my car was making noises so I took it to Gwatney Chevrolet who I typically would take it to. They told me that the camshaft was harmed by the lifter which would cost me upward 9000$. I explained to them that I had been here several times and I was informed that they usually don't fixed something unless it's completely failed. No one ever told me this issue would likely to happen soon or anything. I need them to cover this, because it was due to their automotive servicing neglect that this occurred.

I've got a 2019 Silverado 1500 RST 5.3L Z71 - thankfully, made it 101k miles without any major issues. Always maintained service and oil changes. Bought this truck new in 2019 after my 2017 Colorado had a sparkplug break off in the engine while traveling cross country.

However, my truck is at the dealership now waiting to be checked out for this issue. It started throwing codes for "Service Parking Brake" and "Service ESC" a few days ago, then wouldn't accelerate over 30-40mph and was knocking/ticking at all speeds. Everything I've found so far points to camshaft/lifter issues that GM has had lawsuits on, but never a recall.

I'd venture to guess that I made it this far without issues because for the first 3 years I religiously turned off the AFM switch when I'd start the truck.

This is now the 2nd GM truck that I've bought brand new that's had major engine issues in the last 5 years.

I have had this truck since it was new. Granted I put 100,000 miles on it in 2.5 years but it was all highway and the vehicle was serviced regularly by Chevy dealerships (most of the time). Other times it was a third-party express oil chains. But to reiterate, there was regular servicing as recommended by the manufacturer. I don't tow and I don't beat on my truck.

I was merging on the highway one morning and the engine started sputtering/back firing and all the check engine lights came on the dash. I pulled off the highway and had it towed to my local dealership (Grossman Chevy in Old Saybrook, CT). Bottom line, I was told by the Service Department Manager that 'Chevy has a problem' with the adjustable lifters in their engines. He said they all act up around 100,000 miles. My only option was to pull the engine, remove the heads and replace the cams because the malfunctioning lifter rounded a cam lobe. To make matters worse, I was out of warranty and Chevy couldn't do anything to help financially. They offered to sell me a different truck for twice the price. No thanks.

This is my first Chevy and will be my last. Unfortunately I really like the truck... everything except the drive train. BTW, this has the 8 gear auto transmission that is also slipping. I owe too much to walk away, so now I have to drive it waiting for the next major expense.

lifter issue lifter issue

Truck started shaking violently while throwing codes for ESC and parking brake with flashing engine light. This was on a long trip. I managed to get it to local dealership in the town we were headed. Call GM only to find they were “a third-party dealership” and the vehicle needed to be towed to another dealership that was 45 minutes away. They said it was a lifter and the engine needed to be torn down and they couldn’t find the parts so I ended up being given a rental car that I had to pay for from Enterprise.

It was the same type of truck only a 2020. It gave the same codes during the drive home but never made it to the violent shaking stage. General Motors will not buy back or help me get out of this vehicle as it is not safe or reliable. So now it will cost me about $12,000 of my down payment to get something that is reliable.
