About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Wires were improperly installed during assembly, on truck and rubs on a frame which chafes, which causes the protective covering to get rubbed off causing a short circuit on my wiring harness which causes the "check engine light" to stay on constantly. This is a factory mistake yet they want to charge me for the fix. I also have come to know this is getting too common on Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierras. GM needs to correct their factory defect for free. This chafing can happen in three different areas on the trucks. These shorted wires can cause failure of the fuel pumps and leave you on the road when the engine shuts down. GM knows about these problems but has not acted on this problem. they never mentioned or noted the wiring problem on my repair summary, Oct. 23, 24, when they were replacing the torque converter. They showed it to me, but never made note of it. They are going to work on it Monday 12/9/24, I will talk of, who's going to cover the cost of this after it's repaired.

The engine oil cooler line detached from the crimp joints, causing an "oil pressure low turn vehicle off" alert. I was fortunately able to pull over immediately, and catch the 8 quarts of oil which dumped out. This resulted in $634 repair bill, and likely damage to the engine of the truck. Had I not been in a rural area and able to pull over immediately, I would have lost all power to drive and dumped that oil on the road, causing both safety hazard and environmental damage. This truck has been serviced by our local Chevy dealer who confirmed the problem with GM. This is a known problem to GM, the subject of their Customer Satisfaction program bulletin N192220080, and a recall in Canada and Alaska. Clearly the issue exists in areas other than Canada and Alaska, yet GM refused to cover any of the cost under our 60,000 mile warranty and has not issued a recall in other states.

The oil cooler lines on my 2019 Silverado 1500 disconnected at the crimp while I was driving. The vehicle has only a bit more than 30,000 miles. I checked online, I.e. various sites as well as nhtsa and found the GM Customer Satisfaction Program N192220080. In the pdf on your site dated June 22, 2021, it is stated that only 530 vehicles were affected. I believe that this problem is more widespread than GM is willing to admit. Fortunately I was not driving on the interstate at a high rate of speed where -?? a potential loss of propulsion-?? could have resulted in a tragic outcome.

CEL for emissions evap circuit. Problem part is fuel pump control module. GM has recalled other vehicles over this part and has suggested its failed operation may cause the engine to stall due to the fuel pump shutting off. Currently my vehicles evap system is unable to vent fuel vapors to the engine which poses a safety risk if the pressure accumulates in the tank. I believe GM wasn-??t thorough in the recall and only recalled what was absolutely necessary. The part is on back order which points to how common this item fails.

I've had continued issues with components that are electrical. The interior electrical items go wonky, radio touch screen will blink back and forth between two screens for several minutes. Sometimes the sir and radio will just turn on with no key, this is random. It will also turn on off then on again after removing key. The ac has begun to randomly stop working(, blowing cold or at sufficient correct speed) all these occurrences are random, have been checked, unable to duplicate or correct. Bigger more serious issues. The steering and loss of power and hesitation in transmission. My steering went horribly bad. It was replaced and it's still bad and the power module in new unit is bad.. again waiting for s new tech and pinion. (It's been ridiculous with the strike) the steering for several months has been extremely sloppy causing the truck to wander and it's very unsafe. Over the last couple months there's a hesitation when stepping on the gas. As well as a loss in power while driving and far too much gas is required to get it going. The truck purrs when idling but it's losing power. I've stayed on top of the maintenance.. I've had everything checked. These electrical issues have become more than annoying. They are now unsafe, becoming very expensive and have resulted in my having to rent a vehicle. I see there have been many complaints over steering, transmission and electrical. It's time to do something about these unsafe issues

My purge pump has gone out 3 times. I do not overfill my tank. They have also stated it is due to no lid on the gas tank but this truck is designed without a lid for the tank. The catalytic converter has now gone bad per the dealership. The truck only has 121000 miles on it. I should not be having these kinds of problems. I wanted to report these since the truck is not that old so this may be an issue with others. Since I purchased the truck it has jumped at take off and no one can explain this. The dealer ship also give different answers for things and does not seem to know what could be wrong.

Lifter randomly went bad while driving down highway. Safety concern is being put into low power mode on an interstate and vehicle running rough. No warning lights and perfect performance before it happened.

The upper spring loaded fuel cap spring broke falling down into the fueling area. I believe it is constitutes a safety issue when fueling, trying to get the pump nozzle in to the fuel in area to fill the tank. My worry is a spark with this broken unit in there, May cause an explosion, and injuries

Oil lines to oil cooler leaking oil with possibility of failure and loss of engine oil while driving.

Noticeable ticking noise started coming form the engine, upon further inspection it was the lifters that was causing the noise. DFM, AFM the truck is out of warranty at 76,000 mi. So i got a second opinion from another shop and got it fixed through them, not the dealer. My shop re surfaced the Heads and went a few steps further than the dealer would have done.

Fuel tank rupture driving on interstate hwy, towing ~5000lb rv at 60 mph. Never saw road debris, dealer insists it was ruptured tank. Tank is plastic and totally unprotected. Dumped 20-25 gal fuel, lost power, barely got to shoulder and exit vehicle with fuel vapors everywhere. Numerous items could have easily ignited the truck/rv with huge potential for injury/death. Local volunteer fire dept responded. This was memorial day weekend, dangerous traffic, had to arrange towing both the GM truck plus the towed rv. No dealer would loan me a vehicle to tow with. Dealer charged $1500 for repairs (replacement) of a $200 plastic tank. All could have been avoided with a $7 metal cover for the tank.
