The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal odor coming from the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact became aware of coolant leaking from the front of the vehicle near the transmission, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact retrieved DTC: P0016. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the coolant control valve, motor mount, and camshaft timing had failed. The dealer informed the contact that the coolant control valve, motor mount, and wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

My 2020 Chevy Silverado needs a torque converter replacement. My truck is at 90k miles and out of drivetrain warranty. However, this is a known GM problem with trucks (and other vehicles in this class of engine/transmissions). I have talked to GM corporate and they are only willing to rebate 20% of the cost of this repair. I believe they should pay for the entire repair since this is a known problem for all these vehicles in this class. Please help me to get GM to understand this and fix this known problem.

THIS IS A RECALL REMEDY FAILURE REPORT UNDER 49 U.S.C. ?30120. My 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ) received Recall 24V797000 on June 9, 2025. The ECM update is intended to detect incipient clutch-pressure or gear-ratio deviations-?"early signs of a developing slip-?"and automatically force limp mode to prevent rear-wheel lockup. On August 23, 2025, after the recall was performed, the truck experienced rear-wheel lockup at highway speed. Limp mode did not activate, which shows the recall remedy failed to operate as required. Mangino Chevrolet documented symptoms matching the recall defect, including abnormal ratio behavior. No metal debris was found in the pan, indicating the failure was not caused by wear. GM TAC also noted behavior consistent with a developing slip. GM first recommended full transmission replacement at my expense before acknowledging the recall. GM later authorized a valve-body replacement, which also failed. The dealership owner provided a written statement confirming that: (1) the recall remedy did not correct the defect, and (2) the valve-body repair did not correct it. On December 3, 2025, GM Customer Assistance attempted to close my case as -??not recall-related, -?? despite the post-remedy lockup, limp-mode failure, dealer findings, and the written admission that the recall remedy was ineffective. The safety defect persists after recall completion, and GM has not provided a remedy that corrects it, as required under federal law. I am reporting this as a failed recall remedy and an ongoing safety defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

During driving at low speed 15-30mph with 4 wheel drive set to auto. 4 wheel drive engaged and rear wheels locked up. Turned off 4wd no issue. Upon arrival at the dealer a bad sensor was determined to have caused the rear wheels to not perform as designed. After resolving the issue now I hear rubbing metal noise from the drive shaft. Spoke to Chevy about the issue haven-??t heard back.

The transmission quite working while I was driving down the road. Took my foot off of the gas pedal and my truck bogged down completely and had no power to it. It is at an auto repair shop so I am unaware if it could be inspected under request. Took time but was able to safely get off the roadway and out of traffic. It did the out of no where. Started having some issues this summer but no warnings lights ever came on, so I didn-??t think much about it. Completely stopped in the middle of the road and had little to no power from the transmission to the truck to move off of the road. My truck is currently in an auto repair shop waiting on a new transmission to be installed. I had it towed to an independent auto shop from where it stalled. There were not warning lamps or anything at the time of my transmission quitting. Truck started to run rough and shifting hard this summer but without warning lamps I didn-??t take it anywhere. When running on the interstate it was shuttering which I thought was due to possible tire out of balance. It would also hesitate to take off when put into drive. It had several of the same issues that Chevy had on other transmissions that were recalled within this same time frame.

After talking to many shops states that my year model a style of truck has terrible transmissions this is a safety issue that needs to be looked in to. I-??m scared to put my kids in my truck because of this. I have notified the dealer the Monday after I got the truck.

my 2020 High Country Deluxe 6.2 L87 GM Motor: At Every Cold startup, the engine sound is erratic and sounds like metal on metal for internal combustion for approximately 2 seconds until the newly designed two-stage, variable displacement vane-type pump oil sump pump. The biggest issue that I have with this design is, with a 2 stage pump, depending on the engine rpm, according to GM is Possible lower psi to pump the oil to the top end Valve assembly. In addition, the OW/20 oil IMHO is too thin and does not have the Viscosity to lubricate the motor properly. GM Fix (for 2021 -2024 L87 6.2 motors was to change the viscosity to 5W/30 Supercar Synthetic oil, add a leaf to the owners manual to dictate the oil viscosity change and changing the oil cap from 0W/20 to 5W30. 10-speed Hydra-Matic 10L80: Hard upshifts and downshifts intermittently and confusion of proper gears. There is a TSB regarding this specific Valve Body and torque converter issues. Finally: When deactivating DFM Random cylinders as needed by ECM-TCM-BCM, the lifters are staying in the collapsed state and cant return to full height resulting in bent push rods, rocker arm damage, Camshaft damage, crankshaft damage and Catastrophic engine Failure. It now seems that NHTSA has issued a New Federal Probe into the remaining 2019-2021 L87 6.2 motors.

Summary: While driving, the transmission intermittently fails to shift and the truck has locked up and screeched to a complete halt approximately four times, creating a sudden stop/near rear-?'end-?'collision risk. Details & timeline: First symptoms were around 55,010 miles. On 10/13/2024 the Chevrolet dealer performed -??SERVICE TRANSMISSION GM-?? (fluid & filter), but the condition continued. In April 2025, a shop documented DTC P0700 & P2727 (pressure-?'control solenoid), burnt transmission fluid, and clutch material in the pan, and recommended replacing the transmission, transmission cooler, and cooler lines. Earlier, the transmission control module was reprogrammed, and oil cooler lines were replaced, but the truck still intermittently fails to shift while driving. The check engine light has illuminated during some events. Engine safety concern: During the same period the engine oil was found very low/-??no oil on dipstick-?? with no external leaks; an oil-?'consumption test was recommended, raising concern about internal engine damage and possible contamination from the transmission failure. Safety impact: The lock-?'up / abrupt stop events occurred while the vehicle was in motion at approximately [~speed and road type, e.g., 35-?"55 mph on city/secondary roads], forcing hard braking by vehicles behind me. This presents a risk of sudden loss of propulsion and crash. Frequency: About four lock-?'up events so far; shifting failures are intermittent and ongoing. Current status: Vehicle at ~73,000 miles. A Chevrolet dealer is being asked to perform a factory diagnosis and to submit a manufacturer goodwill/warranty review.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated the failure was a recurring failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and the contact was informed that the oil level was low, and oil was added. The dealer had not diagnosed the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The contact had been checking the oil level and was constantly adding oil. The contact stated that the same dealer had changed the spark plugs and fuel injectors in January 2025. Recently the contact was unable to start the vehicle, and the vehicle was towed to the same dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, the dealer advised that the failure might have occurred due to a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,888.

Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: I am filing this formal complaint regarding General Motors' failure to provide a timely remedy for safety recall XXX and GM's inadequate response to a catastrophic transmission defect that has affected my vehicle twice, resulting in complete transmission lockup while driving at highway speeds. *SAFETY INCIDENT HISTORY My 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has experienced the transmission control valve defect described in recall XXX on two separate occasions, both while driving at approximately 65 mph on the highway. Each incident resulted in complete rear wheel lockup, creating an immediate life-threatening situation. Following the second failure, I had the vehicle towed to Huffines Chevrolet Plano [XXX] ) on August 18, 2025. UNREASONABLE DELAY IN RECALL REMEDY As of today, October 6, 2025, my vehicle has remained at the dealership for 49 days with absolutely zero action taken toward repair. The vehicle has not been evaluated, diagnosed, or repaired. The dealer states they have only one transmission technician to handle the massive volume of recalled Silverado trucks affected by this defect. VIN: [XXX] Component: Powertrain / Transmission / Recall Remedy Description of the Problem: Recall remedy applied in June 2025 failed. Transmission subsequently failed. On August 25, 2025, a Mangino Chevrolet technician confirmed in writing that the failure was -??related to the recall that was previously performed.-?? My truck was previously in GM-??s care at Van Bortel Chevy (Nov-?"Dec 2024), after the recall officially opened on 10/24/2024, but the remedy was not applied at that time. I was forced to continue driving thousands of miles with the defect still present. Despite the written admission that the failure is recall-related, GM Customer Care has only offered a 50/50 split on the transmission replacement (my portion -?? $3,950.34 + tax) and is now attempting to reframe the issue as a maintenance problem. Transmission fluid service intervals are not the cause here -?" the federally mandated recall remedy failed to prevent the very failure it was supposed to address. This situation has left me without a safe, reliable vehicle. GM has acknowledged the recall remedy failed but is refusing to take full responsibility. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate GM-??s handling of this recall remedy failure. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

With only 70,000 miles on the truck it started to have a hard shudder and wheels locking up. During the wheel shudder it would shift hard as well. We took it to a shop and they said it was our Transmission control module and that the transmission had metal shavings and would fail soon. They also said doing any service to these transmissions can cause failure. We were informed that the dealership is aware these transmissions are all failing. The cost to replace is over $6,500. The dealership should have to do an official recall for this. After some research i found that the dealership has acknowledged the issue by replacing the TCM and uploading new software to put the transmission into a fail safe instead of putting in a new transmission. The issues that the failure causes has made thousands of people have to get new transmissions before the service is even due. A quick search on Google states that 461,000 vehicles were effected and that a recall has been issued, but it has not been officially issued. We need a new transmission and should not have to pay for it on a truck that is so new and serviced timely.
