Silverado 1500 Hybrid 8-cyl

  • 60,195 miles
The automatic 4 wheel drive shifts from 2 wheel high to 4 wheel low while driving. I have replaced encoder once and now does it again. This not uncommon in Chevy P/U's. was told by service writer this happened to a truck while it was going down road at 70mph and it destroyed power train. The person was lucky that they had their seat belts on. Problem # 2 is sometimes the speedometer works and sometimes it does not another common defect. When I worked for a plumbing company they had this some of their trucks. I also talked to a former GM mechanic and he said that these problems were common with Chevy trucks. There are recalls for hub caps and lights but not for something as serious as these 2 defects. How long before someone is injured or dies before this is corrected?

Auto transmission only works in 1st and 2nd gear. Load noises from transmission. Replacing transmission now. Cost not known yet. There should be a recall. After minimal research on internet, it is easy to see many issues with Chevy transmissions.

My 2005 Silverado Z71 has a loud grinding noise coming from the front differential when it is in 4 wheel drive. This car has been serviced regularly, however I have only had this vehicle in 4wheel drive 5 times since I have owned it(new). The potential repair is in excess of $1000, because I have been told that it is in the front transfer case because the noise is not there in 2 wheel drive. Can you please help me. Has this happened to many Silverado owners.

Silverado 1500 Hybrid

While driving down the interstate, my truck would not go into overdrive. A little farther down the road, while shifting into 3rd gear the truck would slip into gear. Eventually 3rd, 4th and od went out, the only gears that worked are 1st and 2nd. The dealer said it would cost over $2500 to rebuild because of the damage or replacement would cost $2800. The truck only had 85000 miles on it.

Transmission failure at 53,000 miles. Vehicle engine runs high RPM but fails to shift, especially from 2nd to 3rd gear. Dealer says it will have to be replaced. The problem is dangerous, especially in city traffic where trying to negotiate at traffic light is a hit or miss proposition.

Silverado 1500 Hybrid

  • 63,000 miles
I was driving 55 mph on a state highway when the engine started revving up. The transmission quit while driving down the highway with only 63,000 miles the transmission would engage but would slip out of gear around 45 mph the dealer replaced the transmission at a cost of $2700. Took 3 days 18000 miles later driving down a country road the transmission quit again. I was able to limp it home (60 miles) in first gear. The dealer said it was a rare occurence. The dealer rebuilt the transmission free of charge but it took 11 days the dealer said forward spring assembly broke?

These symptoms began after the vehicle's odometer reached 5000 miles. The contact purchased the vehicle in 7/2005 and is the original owner. The contact has taken the vehicle to 3 separate dealerships in regards to these issues. After test driving the vehicle the mechanic agreed that there were failures with the transmission and steering that were noticeable while driving the vehicle. Silverado 1500 Hybrid

I have a '05 Chevrolet Silverado, I recently discovered that when the key in the ignition is turned to the accessory position (one turn with the vehicle off), the vehicle will be able to shift out of the parked position without applying the brake. I have taken it to the Chevrolet dealer they say that is how it is supposed to be. Not only my truck did it, my friends '03 Ford F-350 also does it too! I am not sure if all vehicles are designed like that or not. When the vehicles key is in the run position with the vehicle off, you have to push down the brake pedal before you can shift out of park. The whole idea I thought was to prevent a young child from shifting a vehicle out of park and roll into traffic! the way my truck, and possibility a whole lot more was designed, a child would have a 50-50 chance of turning the key just one time, and that could lead to a catastrophe.
