The ABS have failed again. They were recalled in 2005 - 06 and the "fix" of cleaning them was obviously not the correct way of handling the problem. There has been no incidents as of now but there will be.

2001 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3L 4+4 anti-lock brake problem, same as in Canada. Truck won't stop at low speeds. Anti-lock brakes kick in and truck continues moving. Many near miss accidents, including almost running into gas station, concrete curb stop only thing that stopped me. All in one trip to gas station. Haven't driven truck since. Truck only has 34,500 miles on it. Very dangerous condition! needs fixed. Your more than welcome to see for yourself.

The wheel speed sensors, rust build up between the sensor, and the mount of the sensor. At low speeds the wheel speed sensor malfunctioned while driving at 10 mph, which caused the ABS to disengage, causing the system to pulsate.

While driving at 25 mph consumer noticed the ABS motor was continuously running, and the brake pedal was getting hard while applying the brakes. This caused extended stopping distance. Mechanic drove the vehicle to the repair shop. Also informed mechanic determined that the ABS control module, and both front wheel hubs needed to replaced. Dealer was notified. The consumer stated that the left front wheel hub assembly needed to be replaced. The consumer stated that he almost had 2 accidents because ABS brakes failed and will not stop the vehicle. Front wheel hub assembly was replaced by K R auto repair. New ABS control unit installed.

When stopping and the vehicle's speed reaches 5 mph, the ABS engages. When this occurs controlling the vehicle is difficult, when going straight and the vehicle is uncontrollable when turning. The dealership feels that the ABS sensor which controls the ABS at 5 mph may be corroded and needs to be cleaned. The ABS sensor has been cleaned and the problem ceased. The consume was told that this is a cold climate problem. There are technical service bulletins issued but there are no recalls at this time.
