About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 4X4 pick-up, which to my dismay needed rear brake replacement with less than 50,000 miles (90% highway miles). I was told by the service manager of the local GM dealer (hutchins Chevrolet, soldotna, ak.) that this is a common problem with these vehicles due to a design flaw. Had I not been concerned over a developing squeezing noise and taken my truck in for inspection, the potential for brake failure would have been immanent. Instead of addressing the problem as a viable safety concern, they decided that a simple front mount mud- guard "may help" pro-long wear. This is simply unacceptable...this is (was) a 34,000 dollar truck with a serious design flaw that the manufacturer should be held accountable for not the consumer...brake replacement cost me $ $566 that I should not have been forced to take out of pocket due to their flaw.

The rear passenger side caliper was sticking using only one side of the brake pad. As a result a grinding noise was produced. Please provide additional information.
