For the past four years I have had daily problems with my brake system. Yesterday it finally cost me $900 to replace all of my brakes. The pads still had about half life, but the rotors were completely shot and rusted. There is no way that the brakes should have been rusted that much. The mechanic where I took the vehicle even said that he was surprised that I made it this long. He expressed that he has seen the trucks come in with as little as 20,000 miles due to the fact that the rotors had rusted totally. It is obvious there is a problem with the rotors that come factory installed with all Silverado trucks. Also I have contacted GM about the ABS problem that I am still having and have had for the past four years. Right when the truck is about to stop, the anti-lock brakes kick in and the truck veers off to the right. When I talked to GM they said that even though my truck was manufactured in 2001 and has the same brake system as the regular Silverado, since it is the hd model, it is not covered under the recall. I did have a case number with them and all they said is that I should have it fixed before I had an accident. They admitted that they knew of the problem, but would not fix it under the recall. Now, $900 later, I have a brand new set of brakes, but the truck still does not want to stop once it gets under 10 mph. It makes no sense to me why they will not stand behind their product. I am sure I am not the only one who has sent something in about the 2500 hd model, so I hope that something can now be done. I am even willing to let one of your technicians come out and test drive my vehicle personally to show that it is doing the same thing as the recall for the regular 1500 models. The only way I have found to stop the brake failure is to pull the fuse for the whole ABS system, but then you have to stare at the red light on the dash cluster all the time, plus you do not have ABS if you need it. Please get them to include the 2500 hd's in the recall.

The dealership was unable to determine a problem. Also, while the vehicle was being inspected by the dealership, it was determined the rear rotors were rusted on the inside. The manufacturer has been alerted.

: the contact stated all four brake rotors pitted due to rust build up. While approaching a stop sign at 45mph, the vehicle lost use of the rear brakes. However, no incidents occurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership for inspection. The dealer inspected the rotors and determined the rotors were normal, no repairs were made.

The contact received recall 5V379000 concerning the ABS sensors on 2001 Chevrolet Silverado on 10-17-05. The contact had the rear brakes, pads and rotors replaced in December 2004 at a cost of $300. The truck had approximately 42,000 miles on it. The brake shop service man told the contact the rear brakes had not reached the sensors at the time he had them replaced in 12-2004. The contact talked to a dealer, who told him they would honor the part of the recall about the cleaning of the sensors. The contact would like to be reimbursed for the $300 he paid back in 12-04.

After purchasing the vehicle the owner noticed that there was a brake problem. Brakes felt mushy, and operated poorly. The owner was going to try to live with this, then it got worse. The owner was involved in a collision about 6 months ago while driving on the highway at 55 mph. Traffic stopped and the owner pushed the brakes to the floor and the vehicle wouldn't stop. Had to veer onto the shoulder of the road in order to give the truck enough room to stop. There was only 20,00 miles when this occurred. The owner got the parts, and then took off front wheels and the front brakes looked like brand new. However, when he pulled off the rear wheels he saw that rotors were warped. The owner contacted GM, they advised him to take vehicle to the dealer. He took vehicle to the dealer, and dealer advised him that the rotors could not be turned. The dealership stated that they were sending the rotors back to GM for replacement. However, they did not do that. The owner did not believe that the dealership was telling the truth. The owner was going to replace the rotors himself.

Consumer has a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. Consumer has concern over the ABS brakes. When vehicle is coming to a stop the ABS will cause the brake to pulsate. In order to stop consumer must let off brakes and apply again brakes. This deactivated ABS, and allowed vehicle to stop. Consumer had vehicle repaired once, cost was about $600. This repair was on the left front of vehicle and took place in March of 2004. Consumer was going to take vehicle back to dealer.. consumer first started having this problem in February of 2004. The ABS light did not come on. When vehicle was under warranty consumer had warranty work done on brakes, replaced pads and rotors due to the fact that there was uneven wear on the rotor. Consumer heard of investigation or recall, after looking found investigation that sounds similar, PE05020 NHTSA action number. Each time this has happened it has been during dry conditions. Dealer in Florida told him that there was a problem in the North with this happening due to corrosion. Dealer was A1automotive authorized Chevy dealer.

Consumer has a braking issue due to corrosion on hub bearings. Consumer had dealer fix brakes in February. Dealer turned the rotors and replaced the pads. Consumer had the same thing done last week. Truck had driven 2500 miles between brake jobs. Consumer heard that there was a problem with Chevrolet brakes. Consumer had midas fix the problem according to what he found on internet. Consumer said that vehicle was fixed. Midas replaced the front wheel hubs, and this seemed to fix problem. Midas did the repair last Friday, July 15, 2005. Consumer talked to manufacturer, and was not satisfied with the manufacturer's response. Consumer said that the problem was originally at low speeds. The vehicle would not stop. It seemed like everything just locked.

The consumer owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The stated that his brake rotors were failing prematurely. The found on the NHTSA website that there are other complaints with the same type of problem. The current mileage is 49,000. The brake pads are not even worn down but the rotors are completely shot. The consumer is awaiting a phone call from the dealer's service manager. If someone were to not check there brakes this could be a very serious safety defect if gone without notice.

Brake rotors unatural wear. Rotors deteriorating on edges leaving only 1 inch of pad surface to engage rotor, in the middle of the rotors on my truck increasing stopping distance. Vehicle has 48,400 miles, on it, and had to have the rotors and brakes changed. Certified mechanics did the work. Consumer was upset about the fact that the brakes did not last long. When the rotors were taken off they were just pieces of metal missing, and they all were rusty, especially on the inside where the anti lock brakes operated. Consumer said that the front rotor was too thin to be turned, the brake pad was not worn out and it was poor metal from the manufacturer. Consumer talked to several other Silverado vehicle owners and they either had the same problem or didn't know about the situation until after they got there vehicle checked out, and was informed of the same problem. Consumer said that the dealership was aware of similar incidents such as this one because of other Silverado owners.

While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop completely. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to a dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the rotors needed to be replaced. The rotors corroded at very low mileage. There was front and rear brake pulsation. Both front and rear brake rotors were replaced along with the front and rear brake pads.

Faulty rotors on 2001 chevro Silverado. I have 50,000 miles on my truck no towing or plowing. Just every day use. It appears that the rotors are severly pitted. I had to replace the brake pads at 38,000 miles originally. I've never had a vehicle wear out pads this early. I've seen other complaints on the internet about this problem but no recall notice? I've had vehicles with 100,000 miles on it with the rotors looking like new. The seem's to be a problem with the material used in these rotors. Could you let me know if there is a recall.

The mechanic determined that the rotors and pads needed to be replaced, and replaced them. However, the problem recurred. The consumer was also told that the brakes didn't have to be changed right away. Another service dealer suggested that the rotors were made cheap.
