The contact owns a 2003 chervrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the parking brake failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and it was determined that the vehicle needed to have the lining replaced on the vehicle. Which was in accordance to NHTSA recall campign id number: 05V161000 (parking brake), but the vehicle was not included. The failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 63,000.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the transfer case was designed with a defect. As a result, the pump in the transfer case wore a hole from the inside to the outside of the transfer case. This allowed the oil in the transfer case to pump out the hole and caused the transfer case to run drive. The dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and the contact would have to pay for the repair. The failure mileage was 130,000. Updated 3/16/09 the power steering started leaking fluid. The dealer informed the consumer the power steering fluid leak was coming from the hydro booster onto the power steering gear. The consumer lost his brakes. It was discovered the booster rod was missing. The parking brake did not work and the instrument cluster failed as well. The speedometer did not work it was reading 60 mph even when the vehicle was parked. Updated 03/18/09.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving 30 mph, the parking brake cable snapped in half and caused the motor of the vehicle to shut off. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and they confirmed that the cable snapped and short circuited a fuse, which caused the vehicle to lose power. The contact researched and discovered a recall explaining the same failure. He called the manufacturer and was informed that the recall did not apply to his VIN. The contact believes that his vehicle should be included since it was affected by the defect as well. The recall number was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 30,000. I brought my 2003 Chevrolet truck in for an annual inspection and they informed me that the rear brakes (rotors, pads and emergency brake pads) needed to be replaced. The truck has 35,000 miles on it and the rear rotors are heavily rusted and are crumbling away. The disc brake pads are also completely worn out. There was no accident but I believe this is a significant safety issue and is the result of defective parts on these vehicles. I have seen many other comments on the internet from other Silverado owners indicating that they have the same problem. I believe that Chevrolet should recall these rotors and pads and correct the problem before there are serious accidents from failing brakes.

I am the owner of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado with 43,000 miles. As a result of the rear rotors on the truck rusting and falling apart, I had to replace the rotors. Due to the poor design of the parking brake assembly, the passenger side rotor had to be cut off with a torch!.

Your id#05V161000 should also include Chevy trucks with automatic transmissions. I own a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 hd 4 wheel drive. I have an automatic transmission and my parking brake has'nt held since last fall. Its holding power had gotten continually weaker since the purchase date (9-30-02). Chevy told me I had to adjust it, I did, twice. I can't adjust it anymore. Additionally, my windshield has a perfect crack in it that follows the uppermost blow pattern of the defrost vents perfectly. This crack started during the first cold spell this past winter. It grew everytime I used the defroster. It stretches all the way across my windshield at this point. Chevy told me that since there were imperfections in the glass, caused by wear and tear, that the windshield was not thier responsibility. The imperfections they found were not visible to the naked eye. Damage by road debris would be accompanied by 'spidering' of the glass. None such on my windshield.
