Fan stopped working on settings 3 and 5. Looked into the issue and found a recall for the resistor that affects 190,000 units (google recall #2011074). Called the dealer and with my VIN they determined that the replacement would be covered under the recall (10 years or 240,000 km). Its a known issue that is most likely to strike mid winter when you need heat the most. Poor design.

Blower quit working on 5, then finally quit working altogether (No heat, defrost, or A/C). Looked for info on this site and someone had mentioned a recall on the blower motor resistor. Called GM and was told that they have had issues with the blower motor resistor and GM would extend the warranty on that part to 150,000 mi. and cover the cost of one hour of diagnostic labor. Set up an appointment at my local chevy dealer and they replaced the blower motor resistor and the cableing for it. Works like it should now.

We had the problem fixed by our regular mechanic in 2012. It worked for awhile but has started again. He replaced the fan module- part number RN571? Started again in April 2015.

GM built Chev. 2500 HD diesel trucks with a defect, in the cab fan electrical wiring systems and resistors, which occurs on many trucks at different Kms., and usage. The problem lies with the designer, who failed in the tech. field. One who did not understand long term usage and metal fatigue in electrical harness within a vehicle. The material they recommend, design, and install are of inferior quality, only to last a short period of time. Causing frustration within the customer to the point, there he or she turns their back on GM vehicles and purchases a foreign vehicle, ie: Toyota, Nissan or other makes. GM, if you are listening, and want to keep your existing customers, recall this defect at once, and fix the problem.
