This is a commonly known problem to GM and other manufacturers. The pumps were meant to run on European diesel which has more lubricity than US diesel. This has been a fairly common happening in diesel trucks built between 2011 and 2016. Apparently what happens is the pump literally grinds itself up and can cause total failure of the engine.
Online research indicates that manufacturers blame it on use of poor quality fuel.
Costs for repair could run as high as $20,000!
Update from Jul 23, 2021: Ful system has been replaced on October 22 thru November 12.

There is already a class action lawsuit for this problem in other states - but NOT for us that live in Oregon. Other people are, have, or will have reimbursement for this huge cost. GM should have had a recall for this issue in ALL states for the 2011-2016 vehicles affected. My wife and I are retired and on fixed income. We are stressed as to how we will afford this cost. This is our main vehicle that we were hoping to use until we passed away.
