Silverado 2500 HD 6.0L

Bought it 6 months ago to tow my 24ft Travel trailer. Dealer says its cheaper to get a new engine than to tear existing one apart to discover clickity noise source!!!! What could it be? Any others have similar situation? My mechanic says if I drive it, it will blow up!! This is insane.
