Silverado 3500 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 114,000 miles
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. Whenever the contact drove various speeds, he heard a squeaking sound coming from the front passenger side suspension. The sound has been present ever since the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 114,000. Updated 8/7/09 the consumer stated the right front upper control arm was the reason for the noise. Also, the gas gauge malfunctioned. It would come on and go off reading low fuel. Updated 08/11/09.

While at dealership for repair work mechanic determined that rear rotors were crumbling and needed to be replaced, drums and lining as well. The emergency brake was not working. The rear brakes were corroded and worn out. The rear brake pads and both rear rotors were replaced. The brake shoes on both sides were replaced. There was a squeaking noise in the front end when the vehicle goes over bumps. The driver door panel failed and was reinstalled, also the arm rest for the bucket seat pops off constantly, seat belts lock up after being replaced twice under recall, the steering joint was repaired, also when consumer steps on the gas, the truck does not move for a few seconds, the rear window was replaced, due to leaking, and the engine hesitates.

Vehicle vibrates if it goes over any rough spots. Dealer said that all short bed models have a problem with vibration. Dealer has to have manufacturer's approval in order to do anything extra to vehicle.

Front end has been vibrating since purchase of vehicle, dealer has replaced front end twice/ dashboard twice, and transfer case 3 times. Went to different dealers 11 times. Could not remedy problems. Chevrolet first agreed to buy vehicle back, then changed mind. Independent mechanic felt that problem had to do with driveline. Vehicle was at dealer 85 days first year. Please add additional information.

A piece of metal fell out of steering column. Also, front end needed alignment due to drifting/pulling right/ 4-wd light keeps coming on. When shifting into gear, rear end would pop, and ABS brakes went out when applied. When vehicle is turned off it would still be running. Would restart it and it turned off.

I was a victim of the May 1999 tornados. My home and previous auto were completely destroyed by the storm. Smicklas Chevrolet knew I was desperate when I bought this truck new on May 12, 1999. The truck was a demonstrator, with 3585 miles on it. After I had it about two and = months, and had driven it less than 4,500 miles, a serious vibration appeared in the steering whenever the truck reached about 60 miles/hour. The shimmy is present all the time at highway speed, and sometimes the truck also pulls to the right. Between July of 1999 and July of 2000, I brought the truck back to smicklas seven times to have the steering defect corrected. I have service records for those occasions (7/31/99, 8/21/99, 8/24/99, 9/28/99, 10/20/99, 11/17/99 and 7/17/00). Smicklas just kept fooling with the tires and wheel alignment, even though it should have been obvious after the first three tries that this was not the problem. The steering defect is still there.

I own a 1999 Silverado 1500 pickup extended cab 4X4 and I have a major issue. My truck has had vibration in front end since day one. We have taken it to dealer ship on many occasions. Before the truck was a year old it has had a total of 33 service days. Its been in shop about six times since then. It has had 16 tires put on the truck not to mention hubs replaced due to wrong hubs for veh weight, shackles replaced due to wrong shackles for weight, steering shaft replaced, studs and nuts replaced due to lug nut seized, wheels replaced due to out of round and warped, countless break down of tire and resealed due to air leaks, dash panel replaced due to peeling, bezel lens replaced due to vibration causing it to crack, manual window regulators replaced due to coming apart internally, doors weather strip replaced due to excessive noise in cab, back glass latches replaced due to weak latch and wind noise. We have made countless attempts to have vibration problem fixed and they keep saying it is tires. We have been through enough tires now and it never fixes the problem. Found out that GM has put some extra braces under some 99, 00, and 01 trucks. Is this an attempt to cure their vibration problems? I cant imagin it being the tires. I think GM knows there is something not right. Just not owning up to it. Please help. I have a five year old daughter and I fear for her saftey as well as mine due to the excessive vibration this truck has.

Truck has been at dealer for repair total of 35 days before 1st anniv. Of ownership with over 20 separate problems, 5 of which are unresolved to this date. Vehicle is at dealer now for final repair before tn lemon law can be implemented. Worst and current problems are front end alignment (pulls to right), front brake squealing (pads replaced twice, rotors turned once), rear end vibration at any speed and clanking sound over bumps(all 4 tires, both rear leaf spring stacks, all 4 shocks replaced. One shock had broken shaft), engine backfires & knocks at startup (dealer reprogrammed comp. W/no results except to improve power, but accel. Pedal sticks now!), trans. Slips from dead stop for few seconds about once per week, 4WD transfer case slipped in low in deep snow (replaced fluid and did reprogram. Results??), ext. Cab pop out windows replaced due to poor fit (one exploded upon removal & dealer had to repaint side of truck. New ones are no better than originals!), rear seat missing rubber mounts(dealer replaced, but now seat makes popping noise due to rear cab wall flexing!), drive shaft makes loud clanking sound when shifting from park(dealer says this normal!). problems repaired: Rear brake line loose & in harms way(missing mount replaced), steering box loose and steering column rattled and loose around any turns(box tightened and column shaft replaced), drivers side window switch sticking in down posit.(switch replaced), all door weatherstrips and drip rail molding loose (replaced all), rear license plate light broken and replaced, door lock levers fell out of both doors(replaced both). Lemon, lemon, lemon!!!!!!!!!!( dot number: )
