total damage after surge

I had both of my Chevy EVs parked in my driveway, neither of them charging, when lightning struck close to my house. The strike burned out both cars.

The Blazer EV now only attempts to auto-reboot—it powers on, cycles, and then just restarts without ever becoming usable. The Silverado EV, on the other hand, went completely dark—no response at all.

It took me more than 7 hours and 8 different tow trucks before one finally had the right equipment to move the vehicles, since neither car could be put into neutral or rolled.

After three weeks of back-and-forth with the dealer, they finally declared both cars a total loss. Too many critical components had been destroyed, and the cost of repairs was simply too high. Now I’m just crossing my fingers that the insurance company will cover everything.

To make matters worse, my neighbor’s Tesla was parked just a few feet away during the same strike—and it had absolutely no issues at all.

Lesson learned: never buy the first version of any new vehicle, and never rely on just one brand.
