Chevrolet touts this is the first subcompact car made in the USA. To me, if it's Made in USA it's made here,
not assembled here. The motor in mine is made in Korea, the transmission made in Germany, by Opel. A great deal of the additional parts are from Korea. The supplier is Daewoo, the car company that could not make it in America. Daewoo is partly owned by GM. If you look on the timing belt cover it will indicate where the motor is made. Some of the motors and trannys are made in the USA for 2012.
I realize that if a percentage of goods are made abroad and sent back to the USA and the Company in turn adds a higher percentage of parts they can say Made in USA. GM advertised this car was made in the USA. Promoted it through the media. In my opinion GM tried to say the car was manufactured in the USA. There is a sticker on all new auto's where the parts are from and the percentage of those parts. Seems to me GM has built a car just like the imports. The Sonic abroad has the name Aveo.and uses the same parts as the Sonic!
How Does GM indicate Made in USA . Should say assembled in the USA. This seems to be in the 2012's, possibly others. As far as motor and drive train goes check it out. You might be surprised, or like me disappointed in General Motors. This not the only subcompact made in the USA. Knowing GM to some degree, guess they are trying to say first American car in this subcompact segment. That's one way to get around it. This car is to some degree left over parts from Daewoo's disaster in selling cars in America.
20K through-away car, surprise me if it lasts a few months after the 3 and 36 warranty expires. GM is still making the Cruze in Korea, at least some of them. The Cruze originated in Korea. Again Daewoo makes the parts for the Cruze. You don't hear GM touting Made in USA . Aveo, wished they changed the badge abroad to something else. The Aveo here was a dog.
