My 20 yr old daughter just spent her entire savings on her first non $500 car and while driving on the expressway today the engine light came on and it just died. Thankfully she got to the shoulder, I left work and went out to get her. After failing to get it started and having the battery checked, I had it towed home. My neighbor, who is a really good garage mechanic who works on his own semi's, looked at it with me and he said the engine won't turn after getting out his breaker bar and socket. Not what my daughter wanted to hear.
I then searched up the problem online and OMG....the people that report the engine seizing and needing to be replaced is astonishing!!! Why there is no recall I have no idea? She bought it 3 months ago from a local Bolingbrook IL dealer on Rt 53 here and I will be going to talk to them tomorrow. A 2 year old car with 43,000 miles on it should not have it's motor seizing!!! I have had horrible problems with the 2 Chevy's I have owned in 23 years and will never buy another one. I tried to talk her out of it but she "loved" the car. We'll see what good 'ol Cheve says tomorrow.
Why is there not a recall on these squirrel cages yet?! :-( I feel sooooo bad for her.

Catastrophic engine failure happened on the interstate in rush hour traffic on my way to work...

My wife and I bought this as a Certified Pre Owned vehicle for her to drive from a local Chevy Dealer on 1/24/15. We felt okay about the high miles with the vehicle being CPO and having GMs 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty and 5 yr / 100,000 power train warranty. We only expected to be putting 12,000 miles a year on the vehicle so we thought we'd have a long trouble free ownership experience with it.
That all changed 6 days later. We'd only driven it probably 100 miles since it was purchased and on 1/30/15 we were driving on the highway when all of the sudden the check engine light and traction control lights lit up and we lost all power. Luckily we were able to pull over safely. We called a tow truck and had it towed to the nearest dealer (not the one we purchased it from). The next morning we went to the dealer to discuss the problem and pick up a loaner. The service rep at the dealer explained that the problem was probably related to the PCV recall and his best guess was that there was damage done to the vehicle prior to the recall work being done. I wonder if this could have been / should have been something tested as part of their CPO process.
We got a call on 2/3 from the service guy telling us they ordered a new engine and he hooped it would be in by 2/5 and that the vehicle would be available for us to pick up shortly after that.
I'm pretty nervous after reading all the issues that others have had that this could be an ongoing problem and even with a new engine we may have the same or a similar problem. Time will tell I guess.

had the recall repairs done for the excessive oil consumption.
24 hours later, the engine seized on the express way. LOVELY.
Dealership said something about the exhaust system punching a hole in the engine.
They replaced the engine.
24 hours later... the check engine light was on again. I hate this car.

This car has been nothing but trouble. The car slipped and the engine light and traction light came on and the car quit. They had to replace the engine and it is acting strange again so it may need to be replaced again. We have had all kinds of trouble with other things on the car.

They put an engine in at 74000 miles due to no compression. It is now at 100978 and is doing the same thing. They did not give a new warranty on the new engine so I am screwed.
Update from Oct 21, 2014: They put anew engine in at 74000 miles When it had18000 miles on it the oil consumption started The new engine has 40000 miles on it and it now ismdoing the same thing the other engine ddid we had it in to the chevy dealer 3 times before the ccar hit 100000 miles and they said it was ok now it won't run andd they won't fix it they just keep giving us the runaround the car is a piece of junk ANY ONE WANT TO START A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT??? we'll be there

In the end my Engine had to be replaced, prior to that I experienced excessive oil consumption, multiple oil consumption test with no action on the dealer's behalf. A burnt piston valve was the first problem, the second time the engine was replaced. Each time the car experienced high oil consumption, no indicator of low oil and then failure to accelerate.

2013 just died, The Chevy road service is useless, they came three times to jump start it and nothing and that's how they left it, oh, actually one of the tow trucks told the service department they showed up and never did!!! I have missed 4 days of work waiting for the tow truck. Now it's in the shop. I did get a rental car and I am waiting to hear whats up with this Red 2013 Chevy Spark from Hell, that will not start, will not hold a charge and has almost made me lose my job. And the Road Service is a JOKE!!!!
I am going back to owning a KIA, I do not expect a one year old car with 5 K miles on it to cause me problems, that's why I buy a new car......

I had my car in to the dealer several times and each time they thought they had it fixed. I would be driving down the highway and suddenly loose power and all of the dash lights would start blinking and i would have to pull off the highway and turn my car off and let it rest usually only had drove about 3 miles or less that day. Finally engine turned off and wouldnt start Blossom Chevrolet put a new engine in my car and havent had any more problems keeping my fingers crossed.

I have taken the car to a nearby dealer now 4 times> I drive it several miles. Park. Do shopping. Get back in the car. and voila - no power. transmission, engine, and anti brake lights come on. Engine is dead and I am stranded where I have parked....for up to several hours Repair/dealer cannot replicate the problem to solve it. Finally they were able to replicate the problem BUT NO SOLUTION. They hooked it up to their computer to diagnosis the problem----but for reasons I can't understand; they don't know why or how. How many times to I need to take it back before something is done!
Anyone else having these problems? Need to know how your car was fixed!!!!

Jeez. OK, I am 45, single and on my way to a blind date. The last few miles I had to jump on the freeway outside Chicago/Michigan City IN. I start to lose power. I have brought this to the attention of the dealer before. We thought bad gas. I drag onto I-94. I can hardly keep up. Then it acts fine. I am in the middle of a fast running pack of cars and it starts to die. Tractor trailers are jamming brakes as I poop my pants.
Changchun, Changchun, it is trying. I hit the hazard lights. I have no indicator lights on the dash. NONE! I I am trying to cross the last lane. I am about dead in the water. I am surprised I am not dead from the tanker that avoided me. As I made the off ramp it started to shake and Changchun and the dash lights up like a holiday tree. Oh sh*t! Then all lights stop and the check engine and the anti skid traction light come on????? Why????
Note, the oil and temp light did not come on.
That was two weeks ago. GM is shipping a new engine from Korea, on a boat. Chevy argued a little about the rental. I have a rental and they are shipping a new motor from Korea. I have had all my maintenance done at the dealer. Thank god! My dealer had all the reports and complaints. I hated to tell them the other day I was also having transmission issues. It wants to pop out of reverse.
I want to thank GM for the help. But I am in a rental for a month or so. I asked the mechanic about what had happened. At first they claimed it was a spark plug, then a burnt valve, then engine failure. I feel they are not telling me something, but I need my car back. I am almost ready to ask GM to call it even and get a different car. But I am happy that they are taking it serious. I am.
BTW, the date was cool. It is poor showing to have to call my dad from about 100 miles away to come and pick me up. My date thought it was funny and we are still chatting. Not a bad first date.

This 5 speed spark is stalling on deceleration. Has happened while on the highway - no steering or brakes. The car is a death trap. Dealer has had it four times and I’m pissing $ away. Piece of sh**.
