Spark

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,500 miles

The transmission started bucking, took it to the dealership & they gave me a loaner car and replaced the transmission in 2 weeks for free. I drove the spark for almost 1 day when it started bucking again. I drove it home & parked it. the next day when I tried to start the car the check engine light stayed on, the car would not start. I had it towed back to the dealer were I was informed that the generator was sending out a low voltage causing the engine not to start so 2 days & $600 later I drove off. I was told Chevy is aware of the issue.

Spark

  • CVT transmission
  • 83,500 miles

I drive 100 miles back and forth to work every day. I was on my way home from work on May 2nd 2017 when I felt the transmission jerk several times. This occurred when using cruise control and when not. The next day, I was on my way to work travelling at 80mph on the interstate when I lost all acceleration. I managed to move across three lanes of traffic and exit the interstate. After stopping at a light and only being able to idle, I moved to the side of the road. (side story: I waited 2.5 hours for the USAA provided Tow truck, not knowing that an armed murderer was lose in the area, later caught less than a mile from where I sat).

My vehicle was towed to a local GM service department. They were very polite and a driver took me to work. A few hours later they called to say that they suspected it was a transmission issue that would be covered by my power train warranty but would need to be taken to a Chevrolet dealership. They towed it there the same day. I called the dealership, Carl Black Chevrolet of Nashville and they scheduled an appointment for 7:30AM on the 4th.

I took the 4th off from work in order to get the verdict on my car and the rental car due to me for a power train warranty problem. I called 3 times throughout the day with no response. I left a voicemail for the general manager and FINALLY received a call from the dealership at 4:30PM. I then made the 50 mile drive to get the rental car. They told me that they estimated that my car would be done by the middle of the next week. The next Thursday came and went and I did not hear from the dealership. I called once a day on the 12th, 15th, 16th with no response.

On the 17th I called the general manager of the store and left a complaint. I heard back from the service department and they were rude in telling me that they did not know what was wrong with my care and had not update to share. On the 26th of May, I called Chevrolet directly and filed a complaint against Chevy and the dealership. On May 31st I received a call from the dealership stating that they had been trying to figure out the problem with my transmission to fix it, but Chevrolet had told them to replace the whole transmission after my complaint. I picked up my Spark on that date.

Thanks to this website and others, I have become aware that recurrent transmission issues are common with the 2014 sparks. Due to my lengthy drive to work everyday, I have told Chevy that I do not trust this car and cannot afford another transmission failure on the interstate. If they don't make me an offer I cant refuse on a new car (not a Spark!) I will be changing car brands and never returning. My parents are also in the market for a new truck... so they will be losing some good business. I am supposed to hear from them tomorrow to learn what, if anything they are willing to do to keep me and my family as customers.

Spark LS 1.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 20,000 miles

Vehicle has been to dealership 5 times now with no solution. They keep telling me has a CVT transmission and supposed to act like that. The car almost stalls on acceleration, especially when turning. also hesitates. They say that all CVT does that. I am scared to drive the car because of this. and the dealership says its supposed to be that way. If im able to trade it in without losing a lot of Money, its gone. other than that the car is great w the gas mileage.

Spark LS 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,600 miles

I was driving on the freeway at traffic time, I moved in to a lane to drive on to the toll lane and my car wasn't accelerating anymore, When I put my foot down on the gas pedal the car was starting to slowly roll back. I was very close to hitting the car behind me since I was rolling back. I wanted to make sure that my car was in drive, and it was. Luckily I was with my sister while she suggested I shut the car off and turn it back on. The car went back to normal after that but it was lightly shaking.

The car is an automatic. The car only had 5500 miles. I purchased the vehicle brand new.

I asked the dealership to come tow the vehicle since I was afraid of driving it . The dealership inspected the car and took it on the road, but could not duplicate the issue.

This issue occurred once again. The second time it had happened when I was attempting to reverse out of my parking space at Whole Foods. I was in reverse the car was on; and my foot was on the gas pedal, I felt the same feeling of the pedal not working - just like the first time it had happened , I was rolling backwards again. Just to make sure I put my foot on the brakes to stop the car and changed my gear in to drive, the car was still rolling back when my foot was stepping on the gas pedal. This time I knew how to solve the issue. I had to turn the car off and start it back on again.

The second time I also had my sister film the second incident.

Both of these situations were dangerous and should not have happened. I could have hurt myself or someone else.

The car is currently at the dealership and is scheduled to be fixed.
