General poor stopping at low speeds. ABS pump kicks in when slowing and causes increased stopping distance. Mechanic identified as ABS speed sensor. Also said GM recommends cleaning components but that has never solved problem. Replacing assembly is the only way to fix. If they acknowledge problem in Canada, they should here, also.

My Suburban has a problem with the ABS braking system kicking in unwarranted at slow speeds-at stop signs, pulling in driveway, generally speeds of 5 mph or less. Stopping is sometimes very difficult. This is becoming a danger. There is a recall of these vehicles because of this. 1999-2002 Chevy Suburban. My vehicle VIN-1999 Suburban is not in there for coverage- why?

Unwanted ABS activation at slow speed on my 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. This is exactly what is decribed in NHTSA campaign id number : 05V379000 (GM #05068) on 2000 model year Suburban. I called Chevy and asked if they would fix my 1999 and they refused, I took it to the dealer and paid to have the exact same procedure done on my car as described in the recall for newer models. This is a definite safety issue as stopping is almost impossible when this happens. My concern is twofold, 1. why isn't there a recall on any model that this happens to and 2. even with the "cleaning" that they did, this problem will resurface again on my vehicle since it is due to corrosion so I will be in danger in the future.

The contact stated this vehicle was having the same ABS problem as mentioned in recall 05V379000. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall. Between 3-10 mph the ABS will activate. This causes extended stopping distance. There have been no corrections made to the vehicle at this time.

The contact stated there was NHTSA recall 05V379000 for the ABS system, but this vehicle was not included in the recall although the vehicle is experienced the same problems as indicated in the recall. The service dealer said it was the ABS sensor that caused the problems. The dealer confirmed the problem was due to corrosion built up on the ABS sensor.

The contact stated there was a problem with the ABS and the wiring harness. When driving less than 10 mph and applying the brakes the ABS activated. The contact's husband replaced the brake pads at least six times. Before the wiring harness burned the dashboard was hot. The dashboard lights, tail lights, headlights, and cruise control were not working.

The contact states the ABS activated at low speeds. The stopping distance for the vehicle was longer because of the ABS activation. This has been occurring for approximately a year. The vehicle has been to a local mechanic but no corrections have been made at this time. This happened every time the vehicle was driven. Updated 10/17/2006 - the ABS activated while the consumer was pulling into driveway of home. This resulted in the vehicle crashing into the home's garage door.

This vehicle was not included in NHTSA recall 05V379000 due to VIN although it experienced the same problem as indicated in the recall. The vehicle was being repaired at contact's expense.

The contact stated that the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was having ABS brake problems. The ABS was engaging at low speeds of 5-6 mph.. the problem continually got worse. The contact lived in one of the salt belt states which was not included in NHTSA recall 05V379000. The vehicle was taken to the dealership twice for this problem and to an independent repair shop once time. The estimated cost for repair was $497.90 per side of the vehicle. The written diagnosis was that the front wheel speed sensor dropped out at low speeds. The contact planned on having repairs done. The contact contacted GM, and they said, that the vehicle was not included in the recall at this time.

In November of 2003 I was traveling slowly in stop and go traffic on I66 outside Washington DC. The roadway was dry. I allowed a couple of car lengths to stop if needed. The Cherokee in front of me stopped quickly so I braked aggresively even though we were traveling at less than 15 mph. My brake pedal shot back up from the floor and when I re-applied it, the ABS pulsing began and the vehicle refused to stop. My vehicle rolled into the rear of the Cherokee despite my full pressure on the brake pedal and what should have been plenty of stopping distance for the speed.

I have experienced numerous ABS brake failures while driving at a low rate of speed. My car is unable to stop under this condition. I brought my car in for service yesterday. The front wheel sensor was diagnosed as a failed part. It was replaced at my cost. I brought to the attention to the dealer directly and to General Motors on their phone hotline, the GM recall # 05068 and the nhts campaign#05V379000. I was told my VIN # has not been included in the recall, therefore I would have to pay for the repair which I did. Obviously my car should fall within the recall, per the data that is available paired with the problem/defect and repair that was performed on my car. Does one need to crash or be killed to be included in a recall?! I am requesting immediate reimbursement of the repair bill for this item from General Motors or from the dealership. I am very unhappy how I was treated at the dealership, where I have been servicing my car for many years. I am equally unhappy with GM's failure to take accountability for this problem.

The contact owns 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The ABS system was not working well. When starting to come to a stop the brakes surged, and had a hard time stopping. Also, heard a groaning noise as he was coming to a stop. The contact stated the pedal pulsated. This occurred at low speeds only. The contact noticed this in March, and it became progressively worse. He cited recall #05V379000. The contact lived in Minnesota, and his state was not listed in the recall. He felt like this recall should be expanded to include Minnesota because this vehicle was definitely having the same problems as cited in the recall.

ABS system on vehicle engaged without cause. Local service station fixed the problem and said build-up of salt and soils was responsible. Newest recall announcement of effected vehicles does not list my 1999 Chevrolet Suburban as covered under the recall. This seems to be clearly a problem because I continue to have the same problem.

The ABS system corroded. The truck has been looked at by a mechanic only. The vehicle has been exposed to salt water for some years which may have caused corrosion to the ABS. This has been a problem for two years, and nothing been done to correct it. The consumer tried everything on the brake system, except the ABS. The consumer stated when he hit the brakes hard, especially at low speeds the vehicle may not stop. If he hit the brakes hard at 30 mph, the vehicle may come to a slow stop. On occasion the vehicle may pull in either direction when braking. All the brake parts have been replaced at least once and some parts twice. The hydro boost, calipers, pads, rotors, master cylinder, brake lines, rear wheel cylinders rear shoes and rear drums.

99 3/4 brake ABS failure under 10mph I doublt you will see the spokesman who says they dont have a probllem stand in front of the Suburban when its brakes are applied to stop. Im scared someone is going to be hurt. You apply brakes and when dry or cold and in even in good weather conditions and brake pedal will go to floor with pedal depressed and held.
