Shortly after purchase, right before getting to a stop light and on wet pavement, the brake pedal felt as though it was pushing back. The brake and front end of the car was shaking. More frequently it would occur while towing a trailer. Which resulted in extended stopping distance. The os oxygen sensor, battery and rotors were replaced.

We bought the used vehicle Jan.04 from dealer, day we picked it up battery dead next morning, not known at time was because dome lights were flicking on off in the middle of the night. First electrical problem was when driving at night as soon as turn on headlights, all interior lights would blow, no dash lights, no tail lights etc. We paid over 200 to have that fixed(shortage in park light behind grill replaced) still having numerous problems with interior dome light flickering on and off whenever to the point we have to take out the fuse when parked so they don't come on and drain battery. Dealers service dept. Can't find problem, taken in numerous times and pay for labor to find nothing.. ABS brakes are kicking in when you try to stop at the stop sign, numerous times I have almost rear ended someone due to not being able to stop. I can not believe with so many people having problems with electrical and ABS brakes, that Chevy does not do a recall.. I am very disappointed with Chevrolet and will never buy another Chevy again if this is there quality.

While pulling out on to the main street from a residential housing area, both lanes clear of on coming traffic..dry/sunny day.....12 noon Saturday....as I pulled out I saw 60 yards ahead traffic in my lane was stopped for a vehicle 3-4 cars ahead of me making a left hand turn. My speed was under 25 mph and when I went to apply the brakes my 1999 Suburban 2wd would not stop. I applied my brakes well in advance of the stopped vehicles, but my Suburban continued to move forward with little or not stoppage. I tried to ditch the vehicle to the right but could not due to a telephone pole, road side cemetery and trees. At the time I saw the on coming left lane did not have vehicles coming so I pulled out into that lane. I passed 2 or 3 of the vehicle in my lane before a vehicle traveling in the left lane towards me came. I tried to steer the Suburban to the left into the ditch. I was unsuccessful and collided head on with the other vehicle. I had my seat belt on but the seat belt did not stop me from hitting my head on the wind shield causing a star burst crack in the glass. Both air bags deployed....cw

When applying brakes at any speed brake pedal springs back, resists. Dealer first replaced brake lines, then determined that problem was a defective brake sensor on the right front wheel.

The vehicle has ongoing ABS problems. The ABS system kicks on almost instantly after driving the vehicle and then shuts down and the ABS warning light comes on. The vehicle has been serviced 13 times for the problem and various sensors were replaced but the problem was not fixed. The front pads only last about 8 months before they have to be replaced and the rotors have been turned twice because of warping. The vehicle pulls sharply to one side when the brakes are applied. The rear axle seals, rear transmission seal, fuel pump, and ac compressor all had to be replaced. The brake problem is my greatest concern however. This problem has not been resolved and now my extended warranty has expired and the local dealer that serviced the vehicle (billy navarre Chevrolet in lake charles la) said they can not fix the problem.

We have had problems with three systems. At about 30,000 miles, a front and rear brake repair was done which cost over $600, claimed to be normal wear and tear and not warranty. We have had to replace tail light circuit boards twice. We are on our third battery. The initial battery leaked acid on itself and other car parts and my garage floor. The second battery would not stay hooked up to the wiring harness and caused numerous failure to start problems(when the car was only two years old). The most distressing problem was the recent replacement of transmission at only 70,000 miles. The car jerked between second and third gears, made noises and rattles. Red liquid was leaking onto my garage floor. The car was towed to capitol Chevrolet dealership in austin. I reviewed my problem and told them I thought I had a transmission problem. They decided it was an engine coolant seal problem and performed a $600 repair. I picked the car up and drove one block and the same problem occurred. The car was driven back to the dealership, and we were then told our transmission was "burned up". I think it is ridiculous that a car would need a new transmission after 70,000 miles. The car is in top condition, stored in a garage and serviced as required. After reading customer complaints about this year model, in particular battery acid leaking onto brake lines and transmission problems, I felt I should report my problems.

We purchased the vechicle used from the dealer listed. Vehicle has been in for brake problems when wheels are wet they shutter and lock up. The battery cracked and leaked all over the battery tray and brake lines and other frame componets. The rear door dome light switch shorted out. The front end has been aligned several times for the wheels pulling to the left. The A/C air barly comes out of the front dash vents. The rear end is positive traction and when making a turn it makes a popiing noise.

This vehicle has had numerous brake jobs done at fenton motors. When using the brakes the vehicle will pull to the right.we have had the vehicle in over seven times to fix the brakes. The brakes will work for awhile and then the same problems will happen again. Fentons have not been very helpful with this problem and this vehicle should be lemoned. I would hate for some new owner to have the same problem and possible to kill someone or be killed because of the brakes.

The brakes failed to engage at 40 mph. I stopped the vehicle with the emergency brake and began pumping the brakes. This has happened 4+ times. Dealer said it was normal. Engine misfires on all eight cylinders, this is also normal per dealer. Stearing jumps when turning they have tried to fix it and it is a little better. After dealer tried to fix vehiclel I lost about 2 mpg and had a reduced amout of power. Vehicle failed emmissions test and dealer said he would pass it.

We contacted the dealer due to the brakes locking up and sounding bad after they became wet. The brakes were said be be fine and not in need of repair.we have complained about the braking system since we leased this SUV. We contacted Chevrolet at their customer 1 800 number and talked to a Ms. Lopez. We were told that the brakes on the 99 Suburban are within national standards but their has been complaints about them. I would like to add my name to this growing list of complaints about the safety and integrity of the braking system on the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban.
