Trailer hitch failure: Defective welds at key attachments points between receiver tube and crossmember allowed gusset plates to shear under lateral load, causing receiver tube to rotate 30 degrees off center. Detachment from vehicle and loss of trailer was imminent when condition was noticed.

The trailer hitch welds broke lose while towing a trailer in I 80 in omaha, ne, the trailer overturned and the Suburban. General Motors refuses to investigate the case because I had settled with the insurance company, bolts came loose and the welds broke. Causing the trailer to swing and crash.
