Suburban LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

Instrument cluster would constantly report right rear door ajar. This model vehicle does not have the simple plunger style door ajar switches in the door jam. Instead this is handled thru the vehicle's body control module and whether it can recognize the door's open/closed status via the lock / striker contact. A huge pain in the butt because if the vehicle is off and locked and it suddenly recognizes the door is ajar it produces a false positive to the car alarm! Which means your alarm goes off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. Also impairs ability to lock the vehicles doors if say you're at a stop light. If the vehicle is running and believes a door is open it won't let you lock it from inside due to a counter measure put in place so people don't lock their keys inside.
